Just wait until you get to the SEC

For a couple of years now, I have been seeing fans of other teams saying (as if to Texas) ...'wait until you get to the SEC, etcyou will be demolished etc....

Where are they now...I know the SEC is pretty tough, but it is and has been a two-three team contest for a long time, Bama, Georgia, LSU and every now and then a small dose of Aggie, MSt, Ole Miss and Auburn. Even before Texas and OU joined SEC, Texas and OU and a few others could hold their own with SEC's majority. Now after last year and last night I believe Texas has proven it can compete with the best of them (only going to get stronger and deeper)....the SEC landscape will be changed forever!

Definitely will get an even smaller dose of aggy moving forward. Last Saturday, they went from strange and cultish to irrelevant, strange and cultish. And a lot of their "fans" on Texags know it.

The original message of wait for the SEC was made when Arkansas smashed us in 2021. That was like two months after the news broke, and the Piggies were not expected to be any good that year. (They ended up top 20 at 9-4.)

It is one game. Might want to wait a little while.

Yeah, I say tap the brakes a bit. From what I'm reading in the media, we might be the best team ever assembled. Greatest ever!! After two games. It's laughable.

People in the media are suddenly laying out a LOT of poison cheese for us to nibble.

I hope the guys know to stay the heck away from every morsel of it and listen well to the words of the immortal VY:
Get your asses back to work!

I wouldn't compare the victory against the Alabama teams of old. You have a freshman QB, while talented, still is picking up the college game and has trouble with his reads. throws a pretty deep ball but is best when improvising.

We've made big strides, but until we show that kind of play at a consistent level (the same intensity against lesser opponents), I'd be hesitant to put this team up on a pedestal.

I remember when Georgia expected to be in the playoffs, but we destroyed them.

Saban is a great coach, so you know that was his best option.

I understand having PTSD from past disappointments, but we are looking at one of the best teams we have ever fielded, ever. We did not beat Alabama by playing super intensely. This team IS as talented as our 2004-05 team, if not more. I keep telling people to start enjoying it now, to get the full season of enjoyment.

Even before I saw those two games, I thought this would be a great team. Best team of all time? Don’t have to be. Best team on the field against the 15 teams we will play — yeah, likely so.

When some idiot brings that up, just point to the won/loss records we have with each SEC team. It is pure domination for Texas. Our only two losses EVER to bama are when Colt got hurt in the natty game and the game last year when Quinn got hurt.
And as we all know, those who ignore history are fools.

The most talented teams I have seen at Texas were 2005 and 1983. In '83 the defense often carried the offense, but it didn't matter, because the D was THAT good.

I really like what this team showed last week, but they weren't particularly impressive against Rice, so forgive me if I don't hop on the "most talented Texas team ever" bandwagon just yet.

This is a very bold claim, I hope you are right
So, of course VY is hard to compare to, but we have literally the first perfectly rated QB since VY to come out of high school. Sanders is as good as David Thomas—5 star and proving it. Whittington is 5 star and proving it. Worthy and Daniels and better wideouts than we had in 04-05 (and Johntay Cook is a 5 star trying to get time from them); our OL, especially the tackles are phenomenal. Our running backs are as good as Selvin Young, although we don’t have the speed of Ramonce Taylor or Jamaal coming off the bench.

Agree with @Sangre Naranjada. Both of those teams referenced were exceptional. Jury is still out on this one. I dont agree with @VYFan about this teams groups being better than what he references. Could they be, possibly but thats a tall order. David Thomas as a TE was lights out. The WR group from 2008/09 is by far the best I can recall. Anything thrown their way was like hitting a spider web, they just didnt drop anything. Maybe it was Colt or them or both.

How cool is it though that we can be making serious comparisons to those great teams again

:hookem2:
Yeah, there is room for disagreement and discussion.
In the past 14 years or so, there would have been room to laugh him off the board. Laughing him off the board isn't a legitimate option now, and I love it.

SEC fan nightmare vision (i hope)

Having a superior D-line fixes A LOT of problems. Having a good punter and kicker also helps (though Auburn should have made the last one). Blend in talented AND experienced WR, TE, Slot receiver (Worthy, Mitchell, Sanders, and JWhitt) and decent pass pro, then your offense is going to be dangerous. The secret is in the combination.

We're only lacking a couple more backup TEs, right?

He certainly didn’t turtle in Tuscaloosa. I didn’t mean to suggest that he did. And there were lots of games last year where he didn’t (edit) turtle - particularly OU.
But this doesn’t mean he has completely lost that skill. Like a recessive gene cropping up after a few generations.

I’m not saying he will decide to hit the brakes in the second half of games again, but until we see more we have to admit the potential.

We proved we could play with the SEC’s best teams. Next step won’t come until next year. We’ll have to prove we can compete with SEC teams week in and week out.

Yes. But Sark and company have been and continue to build quality depth at most every position, especially in the trenches and that is what you need.
