Josh Dobbs, the Colt Killer

Sorry to say I was one reason he missed or rather was late to a team meeting. When they played Texans in Houston my daughter who knew his agent got us time to see him at the hotel in Houston. I was late and he waited for me with rest of my family (as an old fart I had to visit the John) because I did not know we were meeting him. He stayed for pics while I watched Fisher and others walk by. The look on fishers face told the tale. He was none too pleased. After a few pictures Vince’s agent pulled him away saying he had to get to the meeting. I was in awe of the whole thing. My daughter will never know just how grateful her dear old dad will forever be.

We sat with a number of VY fans but not from Houston and they kept saying why is crowd so favoring Vince? We had to tell them he was a home town boy. Great game.

I was at that game. Huge cheer when he scored the TD in OT.

Yep, saw that and thought this man is destined for greatness. Still believe Fisher was the barrier to greatness, right or wrong don’t care, that’s my problem right or wrong.

But, but, that did nothing for his poor passing stats. ..(wink wink)

There was only one Vince. A short mini clip during the rose bowl game vs sc, Mack was asked about VYs improved, more consistent play. He answered "we stopped getting on him and started supporting him"

Some folks are like that (I'm afraid my grand daughter is one). Give them the keys and step aside "and let the gentle-man do his thang" as Gladys knight would say. Sometimes less is more in the way of coaching

At the time, maybe. For QB coaching at least. But now? Not a chance. VY was never a "passer" in the sense that an NFL QBs are now. I'd bet that his career would have been just as long if he ended up with a do-whatever-you-want coach who let him run wild, because he still wouldn't have been able to consistently throw the ball.

We'll never know. I do know this, when he free wheeled it, there was no one better given the chance. If you try to turn him into Troy detmer and other byu spares, he's going to be fail.

And I'm just going to toss this out there. 2005, VY was ranked 3rd in passing ratings. I'm not saying he was Bert Jones or Joe Namath but if people are going to chunk stats at me, try this **** on (as Dan Jenkins would say with a smile).

His unparalleled ability to run kept the LBs more shallow in pass coverage. His excellent ability to throw deep accurately (quin ewers, where are you?) Kept safeties deep. Nightmare for DCs, how do you defend the run in this scenario?

But alas, he wasn't a yes man and he didn't have the arm of Robbie fn Bosco. Out with Vince.

2005 was obviously the outlier season that he parlayed into a high NFL draft pick. 2005 was also a poor year for developing franchise NFL QBs outside of Cutler, and someone was going to take a chance on guys like Leinart and VY due to a lack of options. It's a shame that he ended up in Tennessee for sure.

Colt getting paid to not play is best possible thing for him, no need to get blown up in your late 30's for a bad football team.

As for VY, what he did at Texas rates as the most amazing performance I have ever seen consistently. What he did as a pro with a few exceptions (don't forget he ended up with a winning record as a starter and was offensive rookie of the year) rates as the most disappointing overall I have seen. Texas VY and NFL VY were just two different people and whether that is because of the way he was treated at Tennessee to start or just something that never clicked I dont know but we never saw the VY of Austin at his pro stops with any consistency.
