John Wall to Baylor

it is difficult to imagine the #1 player in the country picking baylor...but it looks like it's gonna happen. that's good for the conference, though.

How can we ever compete with the bright lights of Waco? Who's the recruiting coordinator there these days...Joel Osteen?

While I don't have a problem with Baylor dipping its pen in the aau inkwell, it won't help Baylor win key games, unless Wall and Clifton can get Baylor to play some d.

baylor is recruiting well. I would say why Baylor, but then again, why Gonzaga right? Lots of players just want to play and don't give a **** about location.

A current coach on BU's staff, Matt Driscoll, recruited and coached this new hire when he was at Clemson. Apparently they have kept in touch since their Clemson days.

True, hiring this guy certainly was in part to try and get Wall, but K-State did it to get Beasely, KU did it to get Mario Chalmers, etc. Not saying it is right or wrong, but it happens in college basketball all the time.

If Wall does sign with BU he will certainly be one and done. However, Drew already has commitments from a handful of other 4 and 5 star guys.......the man can recruit.

It was also said that if Wall signs, Baylor will have both #1 recruits (#1 Britney Griner out of Houston will be playing for the women) in the country going to Waco next year. Pretty wild.

how is Drew as a coach? Has he demonstrated his coaching potential yet? Maybe he showed a glimpse of it last season? I know Curtis Jerrells made first team All-Big 12 last season, and 2-3 other Baylor players got honorable mention.

I'm not impressed with Drew the coach. But a great coach who can't get players won't last nearly as long as a average to poor coach who can recruit.

This is what cracks me up about horns. They want to talk sh!t to Baylor fans and beat them at everything and just expect them to take it.

When Baylor stands up for itself and says it won't take it, yall cry and say it's not very Christian of us to retaliate.

You want Baylor where she has been... on the canvas. When she gets up to fight, all of a sudden there some bad form and cheating going on right?

Man up UT! Yall are supposed to be the mighty juggernaught of college athletics. Stop pissing yourselves because Baylor is competing for recruits and on the court.

Maybe you all expect it to just fall in your laps like everything else, and when some small private school starts showing you up on the recruiting trail you can't take it. Who knows?

And, I don't see anything even unethical about this. Most of the guys hired by schools to get recruits stay on and contribute after the kid has left. Doubt that will be different here.

By the way, did any of you high and mighty standard-bearers say jack about KU and Chalmers, KSU and Beasley, and A&M and Jordan? I'm sure you did on Jordan because anything and everything aggy must be responded to by horns.

Also, what would be the solution if this is indeed a problem (which it isn't, it's just everyone doesn't like it when the small guy does it)? Schools can't hire coaches and family members of recruits? Not very fair to the coaches and family members is it?

Same old crap from the power state schools. They want the NCAA to help them keep the little guys down so they can continue to dominate and when it doesn't work then all of a sudden the big state programs want the NCAA to get involved.

This is just sour grapes from UT fans. Really disappointing. Thought you guys had thicker skins than this.

Apparently I missed something. What is Baylor's record against Rick Barnes?

BTW, fans on this board were just as critical of aggy and wheat aggy when they did the same thing.

Before anyone puts a label on me , I bleed Orange and thats all I am saying about that issue.

"Moral relativism is bred into their genetic code." Now I wonder if NCAA has a genetic code. Did BU play by the rules as written by the NCAA .

"really a "defense" at all, but an admission of guilt."
Of what ? Did they committ an infraction? Not by NCAA rules that I know of.
Would Barnes and UT do some thing similar? NO but it also would be legal if they did. I do not see it happening at anytime.

I wonder if we are more concerned that BU is getting Wall or that Baylor is getting stronger and being a better team?
The big 12 is getting higher on the BB board with KU, UT getting most of the attention but the other teams are going to get better also and they appear to be following the rules.

Relax the world is not falling because Wall is a bear, religion has very little to do with Hoops.
Enjoy the season because its going to be a wild ride but its still legal........

No one said it wasn't legal. Get thee behind me, Straw Man.

It amuses me that Baylor fan's best defense to getting its hands dirty in the AAU slave trade is that we Longhorn fans don't want to see Baylor compete.

Y'all seemed to be competing just fine last season without paying AAU assistant coaches to serve their best players up on a recruiting platter.

You obviously don't feel good about the practice, since you made no attempt to defend it (other than to reiterate the "Sooner defense").

If your only defense is, "We need to do this in order to compete with the UTs and KUs of the Big 12 basketball landscape," then, again, you've not even really
offered a defense (other than embracing relativism).

Do what your conscience will tolerate, Bears. We'll do the same. Me, I'd piss and moan and gripe if Barnes hired an AAU coach for the purpose of landing a recruit. Apparently, quite a few of the Baptists on the Brazos don't feel the same way.

I say good for Baylor. I'm all for the contunued improvement of Texas college bball teams. The added competition will only make UT and the Big 12 better.

Maximizing one's position within the framework of the rules is always going to be controversial, with one's views on the matter likely shaped by their benefit relative to the action in question.

A lot of you hope your program never "resorts to this kind of business as it would make you lose respect for your coach". Fair enough, similarily, I hope Baylor's athletic department never resorts to $100M+ Athletic budgets or blocks the formation of a Big 12 TV network b/c it may help other programs in the conference... It would make me lose respect for our athletic department...
