Jobless claims SOAR

"The number of claims for U.S. unemployment benefits unexpectedly rose last week, pushed up by auto-plant shutdowns and other unusual events that seasonal variations failed to take into account, the Labor Department said.

Applications for jobless benefits jumped by 43,000 to 474,000 in the week ended April 30, the most since August, Labor Department figures showed today. A spring break holiday in New York, a new emergency benefits program in Oregon and auto shutdowns caused by the disaster in Japan were the main reasons for the surge, a Labor Department spokesman said as the data was released to the press.

Even before last week, claims had drifted up, raising concern the improvement in the labor market has stalled. Employers added 185,000 workers to payrolls in April, fewer than in the prior month, and the unemployment rate held at 8.8 percent, economists project a Labor Department report to show tomorrow. "

It is scary to think those 474,000 are FIRST time applicants. That would be like over half the population of Austin out of work and applying for unemployment all at once
This should be our top concern. not whether to release photos of a dead guy.
The gov't can't create enough gov't jobs to get us moving but it can do things to help the private sector.

mcbrett?
WTF? did you go to the link? Are you brain dead?

Good lord you make make chit up so you can try to post a snark.

Here you go kiddies- net job creation through January.

Move the goal posts again now..

If there is as big a drop in first time claims as there was an increase this week yes I will post the Bloomberg report and Bollomberg link on it.
And it the claims take a huge drop the week after that I will post that as well.

Now you be sure to archive my posts so a year or so later you can repost them, ya hear?

Or, when it comes from the same guy who responds to 1-2 threads/day misinterpreting data to say the same, tired message about the same poster.

"misinterpreting data to say the same, tired message about the same party. "
I posted a Bloomberg article on new unemployment claims. I posted the link. I added my opinion that Gov't can't create private sector jobs but it can do things that could encourage the private sector to create jobs.
Where was the data misinterpreted?
It was an article on new unemployement claims. If it didn't touch on something you thought was important you should post your thoughts and you did
Leaving the personal insults out of it would give you more credibility.
You and I may only agree on 1 thing a year . That does not make you always right and me always wrong. or vice versa

The OP link was from Bloomberg, not Drudge. I don't get the howling. Seems pretty straightforward.

"Not that 67 would ever purposefully misinterpret a fact to make the president look bad. "

Who me?

With this POTUS there is never a need to misinterpret > This guy does it all by himself early and often.

I wonder about all of those defending the economy....would you have the same attitude about the economy if George Bush was still the President or if McCain had won? Or would you be whining about how poorly he has been doing?

I feel fairly confident you would be whining as loud or louder than Horn6721....

Yo
You beat me to it. Here is the Bloomberg link reporting on the adding of 244K jobs which is good news indeed. The Link

The good news is dampened a tad by 1. I out of 4 of the new jobs created were at McDonalds and 2, the Unemployment rate jumped back up to 9%

Still adding more jobs that expected is good news. How nice is it to see private sector jobs being created.

Uh huh.. 6721- I messaged you to remind you to post this new report about jobs created. I know how passionately you are following this topic lately..

Well Yoladu did. It's Friday however, and I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you were about to post a new thread on this topic as passionately as you did about unemployment.

Enjoy the weekend 6721,
