JIMBO FISHER NEXT A&M HEAD COACH

It all comes down to, can Jimbo beat Saban on a consistent basis? Hell can he ever beat LSU?

He better start by focusing on Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miss State, then think about Saban, Auburn, LSU, UGa, Florida, et al. Thus far, he has proven he can coach with the big boys if he has a Hype$man QB, otherwise not so much.

He does, however, have a great ability to piss people off. What's the over and under until his first dustup with Buzbee?

I saw a post saying Herman was going to go after Brewster for the oc postion so He and jimbo didn’t take him with him to aggy

who were they supposed to go after if not Fisher?

I think they could have gotten Les Miles for half the money and he's got just as many NCs as Jimbo, plus he has SEC experience. Having said that, JF is a big name I did not think they could get. I predict they will aggy it up, tho.

Think so?

I am betting on Tom. He is just getting started.

2016 Louisville - underdog by 14 - wins by 26 - spread - 40

2015 Louisville - underdog by 13 - wins by 3 - spread - 16

2016 Oklahoma - underdog by 12 - wins by 10 - spread - 22

2015 Florida State - underdog by 7 - wins by 14 - spread - 21

This happened against some pretty good players and coaching, including you know who.

Let's not be too quick to burn the house down.
Not sure what I said that isn't true. Our last 2 hires have zero pedigree. I don't care who Herman beat while at UH. He didn't beat anyone this year, and most around here would agree there were many boneheaded and questionable personnel and in-game decisions. And, do you deny we are third on the list of relevant schools in Texas right now?

I'm not quick to burn down the house and I didn't say I was, but thanks for the tip.

What is the deal with guaranteed money these days? You can come in and fail, or just be mediocre, and still get paid an obscene amount of cash anyway. Little to no accountability.

Unless you’re a proven commodity like Saban or Meyer, who requires (or can demand) those terms?

The Charlie deal really puzzled me, and it appears to not be unique. If he had been offered, say, two million annually with some performance incentives, would he have turned down the HC job at Texas? I doubt it. Aside from the top guys, who would be in a bargaining position to walk away from that? Very few coaches it seems to me.

The Elephants in the room are numerous:
1). 3-35. Against Boston College this year. That gets you fired here. You're paying a dude 7.5 x 10 that produced that this year?
2). He lost his team this year. I think that is why he bailed. They obviously aren't responding to anything he says and wants him gone. That ain't a good sign. I don't know what he did but that isn't someone I want to pay 8 mill to. Especially with less talent at Aggym.
3). Louisville hung 60 on him. 20-63. 2 years ago. That is a firing offense. Herman Coogs beat that same Louisville team-36-10.
4). Of course Herman's Coogs kicked an Over talented FSU team butt 2 years ago-- ---38-24. Another lazy effort.
5). On top of this you have a lot of dirt from the Winston thing.

It is always a crap shoot, but no way is this guy's stock on my buy list. There are enough serious issues out there, and his best years are probably in the past.
Kind of like Fedora/UNC this year. Last year Fedora's stock was hot, and some folks thought he was a good candidate for UT. But he is a dud this year.

He could not beat Loserville, Sons of Clem, UNC or NC State on a consistent basis; never played LSU; could not beat ou at all; and could not beat Saban.

In 2018 he gets Sons of Clem on 08 Sept. and Alabama (at Alabama) on 22 Sept. (Saban probably just doubled circled that game in red). His hope is everyone is well by the last game against LSU.

DKR and Mack Brown won 0 national titles prior to coaching at UT. Johnny Majors never had an undefeated season at the other UT. Only two coaches (Saban and Meyer) won national titles at two different schools. We will see how Fisher works out.

I can’t believe they paid that much. Things must be at desperation level in malfunction junction. What will the meltdown be like if they have a couple of good years then go back to middle of the pack?

You are probably right.

All in they paid 90M or 9M a year. 7.5 (Fisher) + 10 (Sumlin) + 5 (assistants). If he's good that's 1M per game. Oh wait, that's about what Tom got this year. Screw this guaranteed stuff. Pay them by the win. In sales you get paid when it closes. Rest of your salary just lets you eat. Should be the same.

We Texas fans require winning football and some will pay millions in donations to get it. That's why college football coaches get paid better than the NFL coaches at times....NFL must think of them as sitters for professional athletes, but college football coaches are GOLD if they can deliver that title.

Stop and think about who agricultural & mechanical college of Texas really is (that was their name before current name).

They are a beer money college in the pecking order but they are spending money on champagne in JF. They have no real college football pedigree, suffer delusional fans, exsist in a backwater town, live with weird traditions including all male "yell leaders" that grab their testicles (hopefully no one else!) plus a strange case of undeserved / unearned entitlement.

Mediocrity is only a season or two away......

I thought that too. Pay someone like Herman $700k per win, whatever figure makes 8or9 wins his usual break even. Bad years he only makes a few million. Undefeated season and he buys his assistants new pickups. Lol maybe you give him a $2m base and $600k per win.

Being able to spend that kind of scratch seems to substitute for actually winning anything these days, at UT and a$m. It's a status thing IMO.

I'm thinking that the newly full tenured sheriff will demand best in show assistants and that 10-year commitment including the Sumlin buy-outs will breach $120 million when it's all said and done.

Look for the Swagcopter on Craigslist....

The off the field moral victories seem to be the main thing A&M and UT (mostly not hornfans posters, but a lot of our fanbase) fans have focussed on since 2010. Ive gotten very tired of it. Meanwhile, TCU has actually “run this state” since 2010 and has not engaged in any of the moral victory poop. They just go win on the field, which is what we need to do again.

First of all I must remind everyone that I went to Trinity University but have been a Longhorn fan even back when I lived in Florida in the 60's. They just had that aura on TV with their big bass drum. I moved to Austin in 1994 and am a faithful T-Shirt fan (I own two!). I should have picked that as my Hornfans name but bystander seemed to be good given the goings' on between the collies and the alleged tea drinkers.

But as I've become emotionally attached to a certain degree I feel like weighing in on the off the field hijinks concerning the monied interests. I didn't think the establishment of the Longhorn Network should have been a source of pride to anyone. I felt it was niche programming that would result in less access to the program (by moving football games to LHN) for regular fans if they didn't have cable. So it meant nothing to me and became a slightly negative lean so to speak from my point of view. As for being able to buy coaches and having booming sound megatron commercials during a game it was just a symptom of a world that I am not a part. I have money; enough to put my kids through college and retire in good shape. But I'm not the Jones'. And I understand why some people dislike Texas because it clearly has an arrogant element to it. But every big school has their boss hogs and the rest of us just sort of drift around all of that and hope the team wins.

But I will never accept cheating or buying victories. I don't see any value to vicarious pleasure derived from the exploits of mercenaries that I will never know. It seems odd to me. But the money has become overwhelming and we are seeing A&M fire a cannon shot at becoming the Yankees or the Cowboys. Where is the true nature of the school in all of this? Where is the culture or identity that truly merits school pride?

It's being lost...

My great-uncle's adopted daughter will be attending aggy next year. He just returned from taking her on a pre-enrollment trip to Cult Station and told me that one of the first things their tour guide did was to "teach them to speak aggy."

My great-uncle said, "You mean you have your own language?" and the guy proceeded to demonstrate.

What's truly sad is that, not only is she still excited to descend into aggy, my great-uncle bought and wears their apparel "proudly." And he's from a longtime Longhorn family.

For some reason my 13 year old daughter has been walking around saying she wants to go to A&M. Now from a high level point of view, it's a fine school and not everyone can get in. I assume being accepted there is a sign of a kid who is on the right track academically speaking. But I'm happy to report she has been seen wearing a UT t-shirt all of her own accord. I haven't discussed the Aggy cult disturbing nature that turned me off long ago but there's still time to steer her clear of it! Ha... I mentioned the lack of female cheerleaders (she is a cheerleader) and it prompted a frown and puzzlement. She goes, "Why not?" and I said, "Honey, that is one of the mysteries of the universe" to which she goes, "Dad... sometimes!"
