Jefferson and Elliott gone to NFL, will not play in bowl

Hopefully Malik decides to stay. That will help ease things for me. :hookem:
Why? So you do agree that until this year he wasn't near what we all thought he would be? Answer is....yes! I totally agree too. Great coaches make great players. There are a lot of players here that are average. Our coaches that we now have will turn 2 stars into 4 and 5 stars. Helps when your iq is over 50 and you actually have a standard to play to. If he comes back......great. If not.....good luck. It blows my mind how many of you think that losing a group of players that were 6-7, 5-7, 5-7, and now 6-6 is a bad thing?

Dude, you nuts. I keep thinking of that Talking Heads song:
"you may ask yourself, this is not my beautiful house, and you may ask yourself, this is not my beautiful wife, well, how did I get here?"

I met David Byrnes once, he was.....interesting. Just made me think of that, that is all.

Wut? :confused2:

Looks like our bowl game starting DBs are --

Corners -- Thompson, D.Davis or A.Davis
Nickel -- Locke
Safeties -- Jones, Bonney or Hall.

Did I miss something again? What happened to Boyd?

He is considering declaring for the NFL draft. If he does decide to go, he wont play in the bowl either.

He came in as part of a group of 4. It was he and Hill (maybe you rmbr that long car ride ending in the presser at a TV studio?), along with Malik and Charles O. They had plans to take Texas & Charlie to a NC, and then leave for the league as juniors. They got 1 out of 2.

I understand if they want to go to the NFL. If they skip the bowl, screw 'em, wipe their names off the roster as ever having played here. If I hear them on an NFL game when they are introduced, they should not be allowed to say The University of Texas, use their high school.

By the way, there is a new rule going into effect next season where RS players could play in a game like this without forfeiting their redshirt year. If it were in effect now, we could play guys like Boyce, Leitao, Cosmi, Estelle and Fitzgerald in this game (the MattLauerDoorLocker.com Bowl). The new rule makes sense given how common it has become for NFL-declared players to skip their bowls. But the NCAA should have implemented it immediately. Why wait? Think of how much it would help these players in preparing for next season. Bowl games like this one (not in the hunt) are pretty meaningless, except for the part about helping prepare for the next season.

If I understood TH correctly during the Tceh pregame presser, this would also include the last four games of the season.
I can understand players like CW not wanting to risk injury. Particularly in his case where there is a verified injury that he is likely not completely recovered from. However, these guys took thousands of dollars in the form of their scholarship to play football. Therefore, if able, they should play football, IMO. Seems like making this a NCAA requirement would be appropriate.

I agree that they should complete the season. If they choose to skip the bowl game, they get the tab for the fall semester as they did not hold up their end of the bargain by finishing the season.
Ala Judge Judy, they ate the steak and now don't want to "play" for it.

But the bowl game isn't actually part of the season.
The season is over.

I could be wrong, but I believe the bowl game is recorded as part of the season by the NCAA. (the score, stats, etc).

No wonder the NFL is in such great shape. Supposedly a team is going to pay a guy $10M to be a lineman after being on 4 losing season teams and missing practically all of this season due to injury.

Sorry, not seeing the greatness of these guys. We have absolutely sucked since 2013. I'm with those who say don't let the door hit these clowns in the *** on the way out. They haven't demonstrated the consistent awareness and quickness to not let the door hit them.

Yea we have to move on from Ex Players that skip the bowl game. It's one thing to skip your senior year. But a commitment is a commitment, play the bowl game, risk and all. You had injury risk since 8th grade and all of that built up your skills to get to this point. And Now your quitting for the NFL Draft BEFORE the bowl game????

It's one game. 98% chance it will not impact your career. The new NCAA rule is a slippery slope.

Could be.
It was always my understanding that a bowl game is extra-curricular.
Otherwise everybody gets a bowl game because the season is not over.
At the end of the regular season you either qualify for a bowl or you don't.
But the season has to be over for qualifications to be made.
However, I could also be wrong.

I'd be surprised if these guys bailed before the Heart of Texas bowl (btw, I was the only one to call that in the poll here! neeyyah) ... if they do, they hurt their appeal as they show themselves to be quitters.

Yes the bowl is part of the season ... not the regular season, but that doesn't make it less ... in fact ... to some it makes it MORE. (I don't like the bowls, but if they're going to be played, they can only be classified as part of the season)

This isn't an All-American game ... like the professional thugs have with the Pro Bowl ... it's a game which counts for the school's revenue and recruiting.

I'd completely dump the bowls as they are exhibitions for local big cigars ... but if we're going to play 'em ... you support your team and play ... harder/smarter than you ever have ... otherwise, you prove yourself to have been unworthy of the scholly ... and unworthy of the draft, too.

i imagine there are going to be sides that never agree...

Never quit on a team and that includes the sucky bowl game guys
vs
The bowl game this year is meaningless and they are risking millions ala Jaylon Smith guys

Those guys will never agree on here.

In between are the...
Never quit on the team if the game was a CFP game lads
If it's a major bowl, you shouldn't let your teammates down chaps

if they do, they hurt their appeal as they show themselves to be quitters.

That what i see also...quitters. Where is the "team" in this? Is this what the NFL is looking for? If so, they'll be getting exactly what they deserve.
All these minor bowls are not going anywhere. I read an article last year that explained that more than 40% of them are owned by ESPN. ESPN is buying content to fill hours of programming on their multiple channels. Neither the NCAA nor ESPN is walking away from the revenue stream.

The fact that NFL scouts/managers see enough potential in some of our players to draft them in the 1st round is more of an indictment of our coaching staff that the lack of talent on our team. Sure, there's busts in the NFL, but most of the time they're right and you simply can't watch Connor or Malik play without seeing the talent and potential.

Case and point, all 3 of Warren, Young and Carter all averaged about a statistically equivalent 4.6 ypc on the season. Yet another back averaged over 1 ypc less. Guess who had the most carries on the season? If that's not an indictment on the failures of the coaching staff I don't know what is.

The fact that some people want to present a theory that if they couldn't crack the starting lineup here, they won't elsewhere doesn't mean much to me.

If any of our players skip the bowl, it would be wrong for them to wear a shirt on campus or on camera saying "We're TEXAS". Just show up and wear one that reads "I'm Connor" or whoever doesn't show for bowls. More appropriate that way
