Jeff Traylor is PO'ed

all of this will surely increase the gap between the have and the have nots.
Of course Texas will be ok but I hate it for the lower level colleges who don't have as much money.
I have been arguing for a two tiered play off system for years so that the have nots would have an opportunity to play for a championship also. This NIL fiasco just further accentuates this proposal. :deadhorse:

The gutless NCAA could put a stop to some of this by enacting two rules and enforcing the Portal rule of one free transfer:
  1. All NIL money has to go through the school, with a set percentage going to sports other than football. The school raises the money and would be required to make public who is providing the money.
  2. Accepting NIL money means no scholarship (which will just increase the NIL amount).
They will not, but gutless people take the path of less resistance.

Years from now there will be cyborgs playing for the Orange and White

In Traylor's post signing news conference he begrudgingly acknowledged that he cannot recruit/plan for 3 Yrs down the road. College football is a year by year deal with mercenaries always lurking. He said the same is true with coaching staff. States that he has lost several quality coaches in 3 Yrs to programs paying much more.

He also stated that, if he can get the support ($) to grow the program, he will retire from UTSA & they will win a lot of games (paraphrasing). He sees no reason UTSA can't be in the CFP.

He also lamented that the NCAA does not seem capable of governing NIL & the transfer portal.

To me Traylor deserves an enormous amount of credit. Wow. He is doing what the leaders in the coaching profession — like the Sabans, etc. — should be doing. “They” have the platform and “they” can effect changes.

Again, massive kudos to Traylor.

It is amazing what he does with two star talent. This year is his best recruiting class ever. Ranked 53 with 15 three star recruits.

duke
Saban did start a conversation on it back in August? September? by pointing what aggy did with NIL
I am sure Saban is laughing along with the rest of us now.

But absolute free agency (right to work) in sports is a nightmare. We all have it in our careers. What's the difference?

The different NFL teams may be in competition on the field but they are all part of the same "team" that competes for business with other sports and forms of entertainment. Switching for them is more like if you or I switched to a different department within our same company, or if somebody working at an HEB in Austin wanted to switch to an HEB in San Antonio.

The NIL has changed college football to that of a new professional league and will kill programs with insufficient funding to compete. Think about that. In order to compete it comes down to money. No market cap and unrestrained free agency called a portal. Even the NFL has governance in those two areas of the game. (I wonder what they will have to say when studs forgo the draft because the money in school pays too good to leave early.)

College football has been trending away from players playing for love of school and fans for years and this is the final nail in that aspect of college football’s coffin. Fans need to understand that for now winning will be about money and those with the cash will survive; the value of winning traditions be damned. Just like the player’s political bulls- - in the NFL, NBA and MLB drove some of us away the NIL may do the same. The game has changed forever and those with insufficient funds need to get in line, in the back of the line. RAH-RAH $$$!

Sad but true. I'm so far away from being into cfb than I was 15 yrs ago, it's not even funny. It just feels "different ", post covid
