Add in the "official" visits of some of the local kids that were in the playoffs during banquet weekend (ie Kelley, Gilbert, etc.) and you have a pretty good crew of visitors.
Unfortunately the weather's cold and cloudy in Austin today. I'm a believer in weather affecting emotional response to an environment without people realizing it.
I think Hamilton got his "official offer" when he made it to campus. I am sure they told him that he had been approved for an offer, and would get it when he showed up...so now it is 'correct' to say he has an offer.
I think it is fascinating how Texas gets so many early commitments (compared to the rest of the nation) and typically does so poorly with last few week announcements. Would be interesting to read more about our recruiting techniques.
Well, Jones and Kirkpatrick are the only two left on the radar now that Kennard has made it official he is going to USC and Hamilton made it official he is going to Arkisaw.
I think we have a great shot at landing Jones and an outside shot at Kirkpatrick. I'd love to have them both, obviously, but either one would be a great finish to this already insane class we have coming in.
I think Muschamp's relationship with these guys allows us to snag at least one.
Simms is the last out-of-state, 5-* recruit we got in the final month, IIRC. But that was 10 years ago. I don't know if Mack is losing his touch, or we just don't go after those big-time late commits very hard.
UT does not often go all out to try to get out-of-state stars, because the state of Texas has many, and the school is more likely to actually sign them. This also builds relationships with the high schools from when they played, making it more likely in the future to get players from that school. It all makes sense, although we would all like to get a few of the bigger names from other states once in awhile.
Mack does just fine. Other than running back there really isn't a lack of big time talent every year. I for one would rather concentrate on in state talent than chasing 5 star recruits elsewhere. A Texas with all Texas players would be the perfect scenario.
1. grades, being admitted but mainly he doesn't think he can stay eligible at USC. ASU has fed him a lot about their student-athlete program that keeps players eligible blah blah blah. He's taking night classes now in order to be eligible.
2. has some buddies from his HS team that are at ASU now.
Would be a big loss for SC. VB is supposed to announce today and I do think he's going to decommit and choose ASU.
