Jalen Hurts

including a 5 star QB with an NFL pedigree who was Gatorade Player of the year, who didn't just not "pan out", but were either downright terrible, or left the program not even having made a contribution?

Not to mention, went to a smaller school, put up strong numbers and signed an NFL contract.

How about a team of 4 and 5 stars, including a 5 star QB with an NFL pedigree who was Gatorade Player of the year, who didn't just not "pan out", but were either downright terrible, or left the program not even having made a contribution? That's Texas the last years of the MB era.
We fired Mack Brown because of his poor performance: only 1 natty and only 2 big 12 titles. He really should have been horsewhipped before and after he was fired to punish him from putting us all through that.

Second hurdle is keeping him away from transfer forms...

Why, does he need a starter for his fireplace?

The kid from Hawaii played extremely well for 29+ minutes except for nearly losing the game with his dumbass stunt on the next to last play in regulation and again in OT.

Jalen Hurts has been your starter for 29 games. You don't bench him for a crappy half. If smart coaches did that, we would be starting a LB at QB.

Statistically the most successful QB in Texas' history?

DB Ricky Churchman

- 65 yard per play average

- touchdown on every play

:hookem2:

Bill was All Pro, not sure Ricky ever played in NFL.

Ricky went in for one play, handed the ball to Ham Jones (?) who ran through a whole about as wide as the Capitol.

Tell me again why Mack was fired? You proved my point. Then Charlie ran off a boat load of talent instilling his "core values" and we went thru two years of 3 star crap causing him to lose his job after 5 win seasons.

I think Alabama has two great qbs now. Hurts knows he's done great things for Alabama. The freshman came in with absolutely no pressure and played like it. How will Tua do when it's HIS start and people are expecting him to repeat his performance every game? Trevor Knight did that in a game for OU, then had some good games for Aggy but I don't think ever as significant. GREAT effort by Tua, but leaving Alabama now wouldn't be a smart decision for either qb.....I don't think either will be an NFL qb, but both could be part of leading Alabama to more big games/titles....

EVERY player who starts for Alabama KNOWS if they don't produce, there's another 4 or 5 star that will replace him. NO ONE is entitled to ANYTHING. Saban could care LESS about "crushing" a young man's career/confidence. That's was Mack Brown's priority, NOT Saban's - he only cares about winning games and championships.
As Scott Frost pointed out in a recent interview, Saban had 12 games to figure out that Tagovailoa was clearly the better quarterback, yet it wasn't until he felt desperate in the final game that he put him in.

I don't believe Tagovailoa is clearly a better qb. He had an awesome NC game and deserves all of the accolades that goes with that....BUT, name him the starter and wait for his first major screwup/loss and people won't be happy. I say you play 'em both frequently AND often (yes I did that on purpose) to keep 'em fresh and ready. One might go cold but not both....

No disrespect to Jalen Hurts but, I have seen nothing to suggest that he is special. Alabama has won their championships because of their near-NFL caliber lines and talented RBs. And they have usually done it with journeyman QBs. That said, the kid from Hawaii may be an exception, which is a very scary thought.

I wouldn’t really want Hurts at Texas. I see more downside than upside, partially because of the disruptive nature of bringing another QB in at this time.

Did Hurts ever really consider Texas and how hard did Texas recruit him?

Personally, I didn't see anything special in him except his supporting cast!

But Saban did bench Hurts for a crappy half and the strategy worked brilliantly. The freshman QB came in and Bama started scoring points.

Hurts is a great athlete but for whatever reason he was not effective in the first half.

Alan Lowry looked pretty good at both defensive back and quarterback. All SWC db one year, all SWC qb the next, knocking off Alabama in the Cotton bowl. No, his foot was not out of bounds. Glad we didn’t have instant replay back in the day.
