Whatever Daddy Matthews belief is on scheme, it doesn't matter. In college, to prove you are NFL ready, you have to be able to beat the guy across from you no matter what scheme you are running. If you can't do this the majority of the time in college, you are either going to struggle or not be in the NFL.

I tend to believe this crap about scheme is just Bruce Mathews way of expressing his desire for his son NOT to go to UT. He has USC & aNm in the family and neither one is fond of Tex. Plenty of schools use both USCs & aNms schemes and I'm sure UT has as much success sending players to the pros as the other schools. Of course USC sends more % wise but every player on their team would have been drafted straight out of HS according to ESPN. As 1 of the hundreds of anonymous posters on this board, I claim BS on big bruce siting scheme as reason to avoid UT. Also, Michael Vick coud be arguably the best running QB ever, but that doesn't mean today he knows squat about running or QBing. I also don't believe the NFL scouts call bruce for his opinion on various college schemes prior to selecting on draft day. I'm not understaing Mathews. He was the Emmitt Smith of NFL lineman, not the MOST dominant but very good for a long, long time. Maybe scheme gave him his longevity or maybe it was yoga or pure luck. If we ask Larry Allen, Jackie Slater & Art Shell (each every bit as revered as mathews) about college schemes they'd probably support schools most have never heard of (their own). I'm pretty sure I don"t know & I'm also pretty sure bruce simply doesn't want his son going to Tex....

I never meant to imply anything about his character at all . I've never heard anything but good things about him. Only that he's just as subject to being partial as everyone else. I, for one, am partial to Texas while I feel he is partial to USC & aNm. Perhaps I got carried away with the comment about NFL scouts. To you, or anyone else that felt I was minimizing or denigrating bruce in any way, I apologize..
