Jake Mathews news

No kidding. Martellus Bennett loved the pass-happy offense that was sold to him too. Didn't work out so well once he got there and A&M had to shift strategies to compensate for its crappy talent.

The NFL is all about the pass. If he was really looking to get ready for the league, he'd be looking at who does the best at teaching pass protection.

Yeah, aggy puts so many OL in the NFL. UT does have OL playing in the NFL. Plus more teams are running different plays than the ancient Johnny Unitas ones. May benefit him to go to a place that would expand knowledge/concept of what will be expected of future OL men.

There is a reason Sherman was fired at Green Bay and probably will be at Tamu. Many NFL coaches that came back to college ball never prepared their players for the NFL, and Sherman showed last year he's probably going to be one of them.

Mathews coming to UT has always been a longshot. There is too much of a pull for him to go to collie station. The good thing though, is that while Mathews is a fine player, UT has plenty of talented o-linemen on campus, and committed. Someone earlier put it best...we beat aggy with or without Mathews. Hope everything works out for him with aggy...he's not one of those recruits that plays the game and jerks UT around.

Forget him. If the dad says there isn't the same level of comfort with horns coaches like they have with aggy coaches, etc, he is gone. Nobody who talks like that about us ever turns around and decides to select us. No need to consider him even as a possibility.

Seems like a decent family and a good kid. But, best of luck .. It was good knowing you

.. Hope you can do well despite all the mediocrity around you, at the farm school.

It strikes me that Texas has had a number of players who were the children or siblings of NFL players, who went on to the NFL and seemed to suffer little impairment from our blocking schemes. But whatever. If someone can actually choose A&M, College Station and Sherm over UT, Austin and Mack, more power to them. That person's powers of discernment are something special.

I don't really get it though, if a pro-style offense is what he's looking for, why isn't USC the top choice? At least there he can win and learn the schemes he thinks will help him. I guess he wants to stay close to home?

One logical reason for going to aggie, is the chance to try out your blocking skills against a Longhorn defense... outside practice conditions. Maybe that's his angle.

definition of "Rationalization"-- any thought process that convinces you to attend a&m.

If the NFL is his long term goal, then he needs to follow his Dad and his cousin, and head to USC. I'd love to have the kid, but a contest between aggy and SC, is no contest at all. Like comparing the Philadelphia Phillies to my kid's t-ball team.

I this going to be another Mitch Mustain and his mother situation? I think it will if he comes to UT? Just my humble opinion, but it think it will be a problem.

i'd rather see him go aggy than usc. he's still a texas kid. hate it when oos schools pick off top kids from this state.

Reading between the lines, I think he's looking a playing time and thinks that due to the lack of OL talent at A&M, he will have a better shot there. It's not so much of the scheme as it is he's afraid of competition and being a son of an NFL player, has a sense of entitlement.

I will be happy for him if he chooses aggie. If it were OU it wouldn't sit well but going to aggie is about the same as choosing to not play ball anymore.
