Jada Terry reopens recruitment

One of Coach Aston’s comments was that she needed to reach out to that she needed to reach out to the 2012 signees to make sure that they stayed committed to coming to Texas. She did that.

Coach Aston’s rep is as a sterling recruiter. I do expect that she will live up to that. Coach Aston addressed a possible weak point by signing a JC PG. Both of the returning PGs are coming off injuries/surgeries and while one wishes/presumes that they will be fully recovered, that may not be the case with both or either. Hence, an experienced PG from JC is a good move. But, the post will be small with most at 6-1 except for Imani who is either 6-6 or 6-7 by 2014. Of course, Nneka’s high energy and jumping ability will help alleviate that.

As for Terry and Adams decommitting, my thoughts: people change their minds, even adults, much less teens. Texas has benefited at times from those changes and at times, has not. But with such a big change at the top, changes are to be expected, not all to fans’ likings. There’s no reason to bash anyone who decides that they need to reevaluate what a new head coach and staff will mean and whether she should instead go somewhere else that fits her game and expectations better. It’s a life lesson that they will continue to go through as they proceed through life.

Quite frankly, at my age, I’m not sure that I want to wait another five years to see Texas consistently making the Sweet Sixteen. The Elite Eight would be even better. Two things, I wonder what the OOC schedule will be like and I want to see Texas make a run in the NCAAs.

Treefan, what makes K-BA's resume so much better than Aston's? Her record is only 176-133, that averages out to 18-13 record per season. You have to be nuts to think thats acceptable by Texas' standards. Aston has proven at least where ever she goes that she can improve the team RIGHT AWAY, and her exes and o's are unmatched. She won some big games last year with a UNT team that had never known what it was like to win. And she also had the intangibles that come from spending many years in the state working in her favor. I think you're letting St. Johns last season and their great win over UCONN cloud your judgement and not let you look at her ENTIRE body of work which quite frankly isnt all that impressive.

Re: If we can come away with a winning record and make the tournament at all, I will be relieved. We shall see.

D-O-O-M-E-D!!!! I suggest we start now to dismantle the program; maybe start an equestrian program, or badminton.

Re: Why suddenly are we seeing many doomsday bellringers?

And for women's basketball, no less. Given the negative prognoses on here, we'll all be better off rooting for trees rather than any Longhorns program.

Jeesh.

First off her winning percentage is better than Barnes-Arico's just to get that out of the way. And aside from conference opponents, st. johns schedules have never been anything to write home about. IF you're not ok with the hire I get it and thats fine, everyones entitled to their own opinon. But to say that Kim's resume was clearly better is absolutely ridiculous. Also you may want to re-evaluate the A10 and see what type of teams they've fielded in the past couple of years when KA was there. Temple and Xavier were factors on the national level, and dayton and GW also made the tourny during that span as well. So althought it was not a "major" conferece, she knows what its like to face quality opponents the year she won the A10 tournament, xavier and temple were top 18 teams. How many conference championships does K-BA have? Oh ok

OU

There was reference to an AAU/high school coach. Me thinks this is you UTFann. But I know you didn't knock down on Jada as alluded by this "sooner" who calls us whorns:

In reply to:

I'm not absolutely certain I would say it is illustrative of a player being self-centered, but it certainly (to me) begs the question of whether she would have even contemplated playing for UNT. Let's face it, my guess is that, as coach of UNT, KA would have sought to go after the players who would have legitimately considered the school. And if Jada Terry was not someone in that pool, then why expend the resources? And viewed in that context, my take on the tweet is that while perhaps not indicia of self-centeredness, it IS indicia of being short-sighted and losing focusness.

(yes, the focusness is a deliberate use...perhaps not on the WBB board but certainly elsewhere on HF)

The AAU coach isnt't utfann - it's a first time poster who joined to say two players (who had just de-committed) weren't as good as advertised, even though one is the top in-state recruit in the 2013 class.

mb - not really sure what the reference to UNT is all about. I may have missed something in the thread. If it's about Terry saying she wasn't recruited by Aston, I think that's just a reference to the fact it was the previous coach who she committed to. Obviously if UNT could have signed the top in-state recruit they would have done so; it probably would have been their biggest signing ever. And the same is true for Adams. Either would have been a HUGE get for UNT. Terry could probably play wherever she chose to, inc anywhere in the Big12 (and that includes Texas if she decided to re-commit here). But maybe you were referring to something else?

SJ's finished second in the Big East this year, ahead of UCONN. You can really compare KA's results to a school in the same conference with UCONN and Notre Dame.
