IYO, who's the best sitcom character of all time?

The first thought I had was "costanza and barney". But I want to add a shout out to Granny Clampett..

I gotta go with Real Deal Bill McNeal. Talk about a show absolutely sucking after Phil Hartman passed. News Radio was a fantastic show. Bill McNeal was the best character.

Tie: Co-stanza and Homer J. Simpson.

Then it's (in no particular order):

Micheal Scott (The Office)
Stewie from the Family Guy
Dwight Schrute
Bill McNeal
Archie Bunker
Bob Newhart
Frasier Crane
Al Bundy
Fred Sanford
Ted Baxter
Hank Kingsley

Sam Mayday Malone

and Henri from Cheers...not so much overall but he was an integral part of my favorite sit-com episode of all time...the quest to name the king of the babe hounds.

It's a new one, but absolutely up there for me.

All time, I'm not a Seinfeld fan, but Costanza is a fanstastic character.

Cliff Huxtable was pretty damn good too

UofT beat me to it. Though Barney has no longevity, some day he will be LEGEN (wait for it) DARY.

As for the old/long timers, I have to go with Hawkeye.

I immediately thought KRAMER before clicking on the thread.

You could write absolutely any oddball, wacky storyline and it was perfect for KRAMER.

Overlooked Nominees:

Ted Baxter
Geoff Murdoch
Frank Burns (mash wasn't **** w/o him)

edited to correct character name.
