It was forty years ago today...

The Magical Mystery tour is dying to take you away, take you away... to look at the Queen, back in the USSR, Penny Lane, Bishopsgate, Strawberry Fields, an Octopus's Garden... in the shade.

This thread sends me back down the Long and Winding Road to a time when I met my Lady Madonna. The memories make me want to Twist and Shout, And I Love Her, Norwegian Wood.

So...no discussions about having picnics in Octopus' Garden Eight Days a Week or how Happiness is a Warm Gun?

Fine. I'll just take a break from this Glass Onion before Dr Robert bans me, Because I need to go see Maggie Mae, to figure out how to fix that Matchbox she lives in.

Tax season and no discussion about the Tax Man? Baby your a rich man, but you never give me your money... you only give me your funny papers. I'll buy you a diamond ring my friend if it makes you feel alright.

They did it the right way. Started with talent, worked hard and became a success larger than anyone could have imagined.
Unlike today's media generated stars they were the real deal.

They have some good songs and some songs that are soo pop it makes me thrown up a little in my mouth. Now I will give them credit for changing the world, and credit for a great pop band, but don't just start saying they are a rock band, because the Rolling Stones are rock the Beattles are pop.

With a Little Help From My Friends on HF and with all due respect to the Stones, The Who, ELO, Brian Wilson & The Beach Boys, The Eagles, REM, U2 or anyone else you care to name that experienced greatness or success... I won't argue the rock vs. pop label, only that The Beatles, like The University, were The Greastest Band ever, in any form, style or classification.

So in honor of The Beatles, let's all get up and dance to song that was hit before your mother was born...

Some of you act like the Beatles were supposed to be world changing as little more than a garage band when they were 17 years old. Of course they started out playing rock 'n roll covers, and were popular mainly for their hair and looks. But they evolved, and had incredible musical talent, and that's why they sell millions of albums to this day, not because they had cute hair or once played Chuck Berry songs. That's why they are still loved when they are 64.

OK here's another clue for you...

Trivia question for some, common knowledge for others. What 70's band / group was frequently compared / mentioned as talented or likened to The Beatles?

WorsterMan:
I'm not sure what band you are refering to, but i do remember and still have the newspaper article about a band inthe 70's callled "Klattu". The conspiracy theorists conjectured that it was the Beatles in disguise in the recording studio testing whether their new material would be marketable.

I believe the correct answer is ELO - Jeff Lynne and Electric Light Orchestra got more comparisons to The Beatles than anyone else.
