only playing one basketball game this year.
If that is true then Texas can run the table.

We will probably meet them in the finals of the Big 12 tourney.
A number #1 seed will be at stake, so we still have work to do

Hi. Welcome to the basketball forum.
-------------------------------------------------
I just forgot we still have more than 10 teams.
Thanks for the welcome.

I am one who tends to think if we win out and KU wins out and both make it to Big XII tourny final then both will be number one seeds. Duke doesnt impress me and I think they lose a couple more games. The Big East teams are eating each other up to where only the champ will likely be a one seed. So if Ohio State gets one, Big East champ another that leaves two for Texas and Kansas depending on Duke and how they play out. If duke wins out then this analysis misses because the eastern bias will give Duke that third one seed leaving only one for the Big XII

If we run the 16-0 table, I don't think the conference tournament matters for our #1. I would like to beat KU again but I don't think its necessary for the #1, assuming the boys win out.

I'd like to see us beat KU just to beat them. That and see how we'd do without that 15 point hole we started out in.

Twice likely, regular season game played already, Big XII title game probable.

Then both are probably No. 1 seeds, and if they win their brackets they either play in semi, or possibly final (assuming wins over others in semis).

That would be 3 possible.

I want Texas to play KU 3 times this year, if nothing else it would mean we're in the semis or final game.

Another way to look at it.

Agree with everyone else... going undefeated in the regular season should easily give us the #1 seed in the San Antonio regional. Doesn't matter about the conference tourney.

If for some crap reason the brackets are set with Duke or SDSU as a #1 seed, and the choice is between Kansas and Texas for the last #1, they'd give it to Texas for winning the regular season matchup in Lawrence. Not for whoever won the conference tourney matchup.

It's going to be a different situation if they play in the B12 tournament, third game in three days. That favors KU. Longer bench, and a more versatile bench (basically, they can bring in scorers).

Texas has a deep bench too and I am not sure it will be as big a factor as you indicate. Texas strength is defense and this will likely wear down some Kansas scorers who won't be able to run up and down the court as easily either.

Will be a good game regardless, and I hope Texas wins.

If our 'Horns run the regular season table and go 16-0 in conference play, one of those No.1 seeds better be reserved for them. Should the NCAA instead backtrack and look to award the tournament winner (assuming KU and Texas reach the finals), it would be a very poor precedent.

For one, the Selection Committee has historically not given the Big 12 Tournament a great deal of creedence. Bubble teams can play their way in and at-larges can improve their seeding slightly with good showings in the tournament, but the NCAA generally favors the regular season champion.

Also, since Texas already beat the Jayhawks on their court, having a "winner-take-all" game for a No.1 seed would essentially make Texas' regular-season win and subsequent regular-season title meaningless, and I hope the Selection Committee is better than that.

At the same time, Gem, I like the Horns' chances against anyone in the nation right now. Even if we don't have a #1 seed wrapped up by tournament time, I wouldn't fret because I could see the horns beating KU again.

EDIT: That said, I don't see how we can't be a #1 seed if we're staring down a perfect record in a power conference. Who else can boast that? Only Ohio State so far. Plus, I've heard at times about teams not playing as hard in the conference tourney in order to rest themselves for the NCAA tourney.

I would think that we could be a two seed and still get a favorable draw, which should be more important than being seeded 1, or 2.

Of course I also think that if we keep winning it won't matter.

Mm, I see your point. But I think, should KU win the big XII tourney, that a 16-0 conference record would outshine that.

If I had to call the #1 seeds right now:

Ohio State
Duke
Pitt
Texas

right there. Maybe swap out Duke for Kansas should they drop a few games (and I think they will lose to UNC later).

There is absolutely no way I put Duke at #1 over KU. Winner of the Big East gets a #1. Texas and Ohio State. There are your #1's in my bracket.

I'm not a BigEast homer, but goodness that league is loaded. Probably 6 Big East teams will be 2-4 seeds along with a 1 seed. Realistically they may well be 7 of the top11 teams in the country. Rather than a #1 seed (which is likely), I'm more interested or concerned about how many of those 7 BE teams will be in our bracket. I'd really rather not face a ND, Gtown, or Lou in the sweet16 round should we make it that far. A 4 seed should not be that good. Please give us a BYU, SDSt, Kentucky, Duke, Pur, Wisc or Ariz in sweet16. Then BE team in the Elite8.

GemStateJim, going full disclosure, I just flat out hate Duke. So, it could be my bias that makes me feel that way but I still think KU is a better team.

I couldn't care less about a #1 seed....give me a #2 or even #3 seed as long as we get to stay on the I-10 corridor (N.O, S.A, Houston)

I don't think Texas and Kansas are fighting for one #1-seed, at least at this point. Yes, the conference is mediocre, but I don't think most folks hold that against either school. There were times in years past where the ACC was weak, but they got a couple of #1 seeds.

Will the B12 title game be over when the selections are made? Seems the committee is always doing it's thing while the B12 title game is still being played.
