Is it ok for a Texan to have mayo on his burger?

Of course it is okay. I like mayo and mustard on mine. Chip's in Dallas does this. No ketchup though. The worst thing is when someone puts any condiment but mustard on a hot dog, and also Miracle whip is nasty.

mustard on a burger is gross. whomever came up with the idea needs to be kneed in the groin.

appropriate burger condiments: mayo, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, salt, pepper

no: mustard, peppers of any kind (jalepenos, banana peppers, bell peppers, etc.), guacamole, pimento cheese, sour cream, olives, fruit of any kind, cucumbers

mustard on a burger is a Texas bastardization of a proper burger in the same way adding beans to chili is a yankee bastardization of proper chili.

Considering that the hamburger was invented in Athens, Texas, Dog's post is completely off.

From the House Resolution referring to the hamburger served in Athens at the turn of the century:

I'm a multignerational Texan on both sides of my family and I've never heard any anti-mayo crap...I think y'all are letting Sonic, Whataburger, and Dairy Queen tell y'all about how burgers are supposed to be made.

FIrst off it should be noted that mayo doesn't even exist as a true state of matter. It isn't a solid and it isn't a liquid, it is a suspension... which is about as sick as it gets. Secondly, if you are a multigenerational Texan and never heard how bad it is to put mayo on a burger you must be from Houston. Texan's historically don't even use mayo, they use miracle whip. I don't know where or how this came about, but I do not that most households use miracle whip over mayo. Other than that I know that catsup is the traditional spelling of that condiment of vinegar, sugar, and tomato. the K spelling only came about because it is closer to phonetically correct. I don't know why it was originally spelled catsup either, so don't aske me. Mayo is ok on a philly cheese steak, and chipotle mayo is good on a great number of things. Please don't think I am completely anti-mayo. I will say if you put mayo on a burger (unless it has bacon or mushrooms on it.. this for some reason makes mayo ok on a burger) you might as well feed the thing to someone else's dog, because my dog won't eat that nasty crap.
