Iran to U.S.: All your UAV are belong to us

UPDATE: According to an exclusive article from CSmonitor, an Iranian engineer says Iran used knowledge gained over the years to [figure out how to] overpower and spoof the GPS signals used by the U.S. UAV and fool it into thinking it was landing at its base in Afghanistan. They were off by several meters, which caused some damage to the underbelly of the UAV (and the reason why Iran shrouded the underbelly when it was displayed for the public). Very good article with a very plausible series of explanations.

The bigger question is, with the heavy if not near-total reliance upon GPS guidance by U.S. UAVs and guided missiles/bombs, what will the Pentagon do to fix or mitigate this vulnerability? If Iran has figured it out, then Russia and China can easily do the same thing.

Iran hijacked US drone, says Iranian engineer

I find it hard to believe there wasn't a self destruct mechanism so the idea that Iran/China was able to completely disable any control ( including knowing where the drone was)we had over the drone seems most likely.

IF we had known where it was when it frist went missing surely we would have gone in and destroyed it??
Saying the act of us destroying it is an act of war but denying the iranians seizing it is an act of war seems strange.

If we could have we should have destroyed it and then denied , as we are doing now, that the drone was flying over Iran.

Mojo and others,

You either dont want to understand, or just buy into the rhetoric of others. To say that our government may be full of crooks, but that they are our crooks..... Really? They are running this country into the ground economically and they are furthering hatred for our country abroad, and you are ok with that?

The idea that Americans who see this and are appalled by this, should just leave the country, is unbelievable. SImply unbelievable.

Roger, are you a part of Michelle Bachman's campaign?

Iran having a nuke means nothing. It doesnt change anything. Israel, who refuses to sign the NPT, has hundreds of nukes. Iran is not going to attack Israel. Even if Iran wanted to give a device to a terrorist group, you really think they need to have the national capability to make it themselves in order to do that?

This is all political theatre, which you love obviously, but the fact is that Iran having nuclear energy or the ability to make a bomb, does not mean that they will use one any more than India or Israel or Pakistan or the US or Russia will use one.

The Bachman fear mongering that you are channeling is so weak.

When Americans cannot question their government and are told that if they question their government that they should just move, then there is something seriously wrong with our country.

For you and others to continuously bring that argument, that I should move to Iran simply because I challenge our horrid foreign policy, I have serious and grave concerns.

Would the US give back an Iranian drone flying over Austin? Or a Chinese drone? Or a Russian drone? Would we? Really?

Knoxville. Don't you think this would have happened already, by "proxy"? That argument holds no water.

If Iran had wanted to nuke Israel covertly, they wouldn't need their own nuclear program to do it.

More fear mongering. With all of the nukes already in existence, I find it naive to think that the only way a nuke attack on Israel could happen is if Iran made it so. Of course they will be blamed, no matter where it comes from.

Huge difference between countries that believe in the theory of MAD or countries that fear getting wiped off the face of the Earth and Iran.

Iran's regime not only cares less about the repercussions, some in power would almost welcome the blow-back if a nuclear attack was to occur with their fingerprints on it.

Knoxville, where do you get this conjecture that Ira is crazy enough to do this? That they would welcome it? Have enough pseudo conservative TV heads just said it enough times that you believe it?

To say that Iran's regime couldnt care less about the repercussions and that some there welcome it, is astonishing. How do you know this?

Nice ad hominem attack. I guess I'll try and find a link to some reputable left-wing publication so that my viewpoint might stand up to such scrutiny. It may take awhile.

Hold it......

Hold it.....

Oh look, the very first article in my google search pulled up a NY Times article. Nice try, though.
The Link

Burnt Orange,

Again, the premise is why would Iran nuke Israel when Israel has hundreds of their own nukes and would be able to nuke the hell out of Iran? And also insure the destruction of Iran completely?

The idea that has been presented about a proxy war, and my point was that if Iran was going to attack Israel, they wouldnt do it up front and in the open, and if they wanted to get a nuke I would think they could do so without having an entire nuclear program out in the open....

To Knoxville, your first link has be debunked, repeatedly. Ahmadinejad did not say he wanted to wipe Israel off the face of the earth. He just didnt.

The second link is speculation. We went to war in Iraq because we had 100% proof of WMDs, which is what nukes are, WMDs. (edit: and it turned out there were no WMDS)

Iran has a nuclear program. Inspectors have been all over the place for years there. They never found anything other than a nuclear program. Iran would need to enrich their unranium to minimum levels for weaponization. They havent done that. Even if they did, Israel is sitting there with a few hundred nukes of their own.

This isnt going to happen.
