Introduce Yourself

i'm an old hornfans poster. i started posting when i lived in DC and, consequently, was an eX Missing Tx. I moved back in 2000 to dallas, but kept the moniker. aside from the big guns, i miss posting with TexDoc.

i went to school when the Coaches were McWilliams and Mackovic, and stayed proud and true through it all. also kept my IM sports tshirts as long as i could before the polyester started disintegrating. :/

now i do my own business and maintain at least some appearance of control with my 3 kids.

Raised in Missouri, El Paso, and NE Tarrant County. Started at Texas in Fall '91, haven't left Austin since, never looked back.

I think I joined Hornfans in 98. Seems unbelievable to me, but I think that's the case. Spent some years away, glad to be back.

Born in Southern California, moved to west Texas at age 5, lived most of my life in this state. Have an M.A. in Journalism/Public Relations from The University. Been living on the Gulf Coast for the last 25 years and since 1999 have been working in public finance law at a medium-sized Houston law firm.

Since this is the "introduce yourself" page, why don't you introduce the complete list of people and titles that are running this place.
Good thought @Arbfarkle , I should have done that already.

Admins
I am the Administrator - did the website work, redesign, upgrade, data migration, etc -- started working on this in November.
@MudHorn is an admin/tech here as well.

Moderators
@jayakris - mostly focused on the Recruiting forum now where he has demonstrated superhuman abilities
@NBHorn7 will be moderating the Baseball forum along with his epic game threads
@BevoBeef - helping very skillfully with several different things, no special area at this time but I'm trying to pin him down!
All of these guys also were a lot of help with testing the site before we launched, and are contributing now with their advice and input on various things, which is enormously helpful as we work on getting the site going in these early days of transition.

@LonghornCatholic and @Texanne also helped with testing the site - my thanks to them as well for their time and attention to it.

I was born on a cold dreary January night. The winds were angry that day, my friends! My parents had endured a 20 year farming rift but survived by trading labor and a plow hitch. One morning there was a knock on the door, "who's there!", belted my father. It's me Daniel, Doctor Riley! I bring good news to you and the misses. Your wife is with child. My dad swelled with tears of joy and said in a weeping voice, "LonghornCatholic he shall be called. He shall be called LonghornCatholic". Since then I've been to jail, almost killed a seal lion at San Diego zoo, and was told by Earl Campbell once to get out of the way. I'm the 7th son of a 7th son, play bongo and conga drums. Have a degree in Organizational Management, didn't get my legal middle name until I was 11, was stopped at Canadian border and handed them my baptismal certificate. The Canuck said, what is this!? My birth certificate and passport. He said, No It's Not! I had grabbed the wrong documents. I told him, well, at least you know I'm Christian. He laughed and let me return. My daughter graduated from UT in December and I adopted two biological brothers who are 7 and 8. They came directly from the hosipal so they have always been ours. I expose them to as much music as I can. I took them to Chubby Checker concert and he invited them on stage a couple of weeks ago. It was too cool. The man actually puts on a great show. I recommend it. I have video if interested. The movie The Rookie, that's my high school. I'm a manager at utility company in Midland. My territory covers from Sweetwater to Monahans. My wife is Canadian, an RN and has degree in psychology. My dad taught me two main things; he would say, "Son, if you're going to be a football fan, then be a Texas Longhorn fan. And son! If you're going to be religious, then be Catholic". In other words, if I'm gonna do something, then do it right.:hookem2: Some of this stuff might be BS.

This has been one of the most interesting threads that I have read on Hornfans .......... and I have read a lot of them in the last 14 years. The championship run by Augie in 2002 was what got me to be a real fan of Hornfans. I do not post much because I am used to my long-time wife doing most of the talking while I just say "Okay, Honey.......... Okay, Honey ......... Okay, Honey ...., etc." I was raised on the Texas gulf coast. Went to school at UT for too many years during the Vietnam War and soon after period. I was there when Whitman climbed the tower.

I have been living just outside of Austin since '75 and finally retired from a high tech living there. Have been fortunate to see a lot of UT games there at the Disch. It looks like I will only be going to those BB games after the whats-his-name AD has increased ticket/parking fees so much. Since I have pushed cattle around quite a bit these past 30 years, I have been unfortunate to make quite a number of Aggie friends. It is hard to do much in agriculture in this state without stepping on them. I keep a personally, autographed picture of Augie over my computer with his pointing two fingers forward in order to constantly remind me to never look back if I want to succeed.

When Robert/Katy decided to step down three months ago, I decided to step "up to the plate" and do something to try to keep the Hornfan family together. Behind death and taxes, family and friends are the most important things to me right now. I needed Hornfans to be there to get my news about the upcoming baseball championship and Charlie's run at it in 2016. Not sure yet about the basketball teams. That is why I decided to help Dion as much as I could to keep this group talking.

Now it looks like I do not have to worry about that.

I came to Austin in 1979 to attend graduate school at UT, after getting a BA at Texas Tech (what can I say? I'm from west Texas). Like many UT graduates, I stuck around Austin after getting my degree. Although I like football and basketball, baseball is my sport of choice. I've had season tickets (first base side) since 1984, and I went to the CWS in 1985 and saw the Longhorns fall one game short. I have a husband and two grown sons, none of whom have any interest in UT sports. How did that happen????

Thanks for keeping hornfans alive.

I was born in Tyler, TX but grew up for most of my life in Temple, TX. After high school, I joined the Air Force where I served 22 years and I just retired 1 Aug of 2014. During my time in the service, I was an Air Traffic Control Radar Maintenance technician, Budget Analyst, and Aircraft Loadmaster (C-130). The last job (loadmaster) was the best job in the Air Force and I did that for 12 years. I have been stationed in the following places: Biloxi, MS (Keesler AFB); Goldsboro, NC (Seymour Johnson AFB); Osan AB (South Korea); Dover, DE (Dover AFB); North Pole, AK (Eielson AFB); Yuba City/Marysville, CA (Beale AFB); Abilene, TX (Dyess AFB); San Antonio, TX (Lackland AFB); Eagle River, AK (Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson); Converse, TX (Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph). I have been to 6 out 7 continents, Antarctica is the one I haven't been to, and have been deployed to OIF and OEF on 4 separate occasions. When I retired I took a job at BNSF Railroad and I am a conductor working out of San Antonio but I am transferring to Temple by this summer.

I am married to a lovely Australian woman going on 13 years and we have 3 boys ages 11, 10 and 6. Never attended the great university but wanted to attend. The only reason I don't go now is because I hate school. I have been a fan since around my freshman year of high school. My favorite sport to watch is football but I have been to several baseball games and a few basketball games.

I'm a UH grad, and have probably been the youngest member on the site since joining a few years back. (Some of you peeps are old.) My username was muschyd until Muschamp left.

My father did not invent the question mark, but he did invent his own holiday. My mother once caught me....you know. I have no money, and I live with my parents.

I've also already started losing my hair. I won't be able to attract the ladies like snek does. They all just look at me and go blek.

I do like kek, but I don't understand why snek asks that question. I know he's a key lime pie eater.

You must forgive this snek, he needs support in so many ways it seems. Do you know if your dad still has any of these for sale? Snek could certainly use one and is eager to buy.

Snek needs to know if it's a "Bro" or Manssiere for ordering purposes.

He would also like to know if you had that talk with your dad? If not, he would be glad to substitute for him and talk to you for a discount on the Bro or Manssiere.

Wait, I just realized who you are talking about. Chole was snek's lover and cellmate the one night he spent in jail during his college years.

George - you remember Chole, she met Snek in Rangoon in the summers... they wore meat helmets and she used to ritualistically shave his man snek!:smokin:

You mean Chloe. I mean, she did look like a man, but you don't have to call her one. You're gonna hurt snek's feelings. Don't make him slither back to Vlad.

As a former Air Force brat, thank you for your service.

Born in Austin but as an AF brat, I was raised in Panama, Maryland, Illinois, and Virginia. After high school, I made my way back down to Austin and have been here ever since. I started following UT in 1991 and have been a fan ever since. I have a special place in my heart for the tennis programs, the majority of my posts will probably be in there. I have not yet made my way into attending The University of Texas but I hope to accomplish that goal someday.

I'm most likely the oldest member here. Graduated from UT in '74.
I live, and have lived, most of my adult life in DFW. Many great memories of my four years in Austin:
Used to eat at the first Schlotskys when it opened up.
Had many a "Moore Burger", and quite a few beverages at the Flagan & Trencher, The Bucket, and Hansel & Gretel, and my favorite hangout on the Drag...Hanks...where 95 cents would get you a chicken fried steak, french fries, dinner roll, salad, and ice tea. And he had COLD Miller Dark on tap!
Hook 'em!

Sorry Ken Barnett, your not the oldest member here. I know some that graduated UT in the 60's.

No, it isn't me, I got my degrees in 1980 and 1982.
