Interesting thread about 'Lady' name

Sure hope Olde Coach wasn't talking about Texas when he mentioned "Lady Longhorns." It's been a while since that was on a Texas uniform.

I'm glad that Longhorn is a gender neutral mascot name.

It's my belief that sticking "Lady" in front of the whole school's team mascot name makes the female version the second class version, "not quite as good as" version.

Wasn't Tai Dillard's high school mascot called the "Warriors" for the male teams and the girls team was the "Indian Maidens"? Not quite the same image. I think the school changed mascots completely in order to avoid dishonoring Native Americans after she finished playing for them.

Tai played for the Sam Houston Cherokees... but I'm not sure what the ladies were called. The dance team (or pep squad) back in the day was called the Cherokettes... maybe it was something along those lines... or Lady Cherokees maybe??? Anyway... you are correct... they changed... and are now the Hurricanes. No surprise there... as their school colors were already very similar to the NCAA's version.
