Inside the loop - Houston

I hear a lot of talk about the Eastwood section. And of course Idylwood is another area that doesn't get quite as much mention but it seems to be in great shape for thed present and future.
 
I grew up in West Houston between Kirkwood and Wilcrest, and back then it was on the outside edge of Houston. Both my in-laws live in Missouri city/Sugarland area and I can only describe the traffic as horrific. HEll we used to use highway 6 as the haul as back way to the beach, but from my handle you can tell I'm an old fart compared to some.

IF I was living in Houston today I would take a chance and buy some peice of **** warehouse type place and turn it into a loft (without kids). It's amazing to me the synergy that is going on in much of downtown, in that up until about 10 years ago the sprawl was the way most folks went.

I would probably go back to West Houston if I was ever to move back (I won't) somewhere in what is now Stratford high school's area. I liked the access to the freeway, but even better the option of Memorial as a non0freeway artery as I got older.

The farther out you go the finer house you can buy in most instances for the money, but to me the weighing of hours upon hours of my life commuting (if I worked downtown) wold probably cause me to downsize and move closer in.

IF YOU HAVE KIDS- school districts are a biggie, and fall into the location. location, locatin formula for value and value retention in down markets.
 
You get what you pay for. West U, Southhampton, Highland Village, etc. have always been expensive.

Like Highland Park in DFW expensive?
 
Highland Park in Dallas = River Oaks in Houston, generally speaking. Although Southhampton, West U, Highland Village and Museum District all have many $1M++ homes.
 
Meyerland/Knollwood for other areas close in that are more $150-175/sq ft and zoned to good schools. West U is one of the extremes. But yeah, it is a fantastic area.
