Inglorious Defeat — Iowa State Game

65 has it right. A true point guard who is a threat to dribble drive and distribute (or score) is our biggest need.

The whole team shares the ball well, but we need that spark plug. Can you imagine a PG like DJ Augustine with the rest of this roster?

I know it's Beard's first year here but is it unreasonable to expect that his team would be better than this? Maybe it is

Horns will beat ISU when they come to Austin. Splitting with good teams is not a bad thing at this point in the season.

We’ve got to work on not turning the ball over. The best I could tell was that a good portion of our turnover problem stemmed from ISU trapping/doubling one of our guards on the perimeter, and our help (the guy to pass it to) getting there late (and he was also well covered) and the third defender (the guy covering the helper) would intercept the ball when the doubled player passed it. Or the double teamers would simply steal the ball.

ISU was relentless with their outside/perimeter pressure. Gotta practice breaking that.

Turned Gabe Kalscheur, a very average player into, Seth Curry:

I'm also not going to overreact to this loss. We might split with almost everyone this year. As long as we show some improvement I'll be good. This team is pretty good but he assembled pretty much any talented player he could. Baylor lost yet again today. Let's see who this pans out.

This is becoming normal with the transfer portal. Lots of top teams are a hasty collection of the best talent the team could get from the portal. Less team chemistry. Fortunately, individual defensive fundamentals transfer with the player through the portal. Hence, we’re seeing a lot of really good defensive teams with lots of portal transfers.

Chop,
I like your play-by-play. Most of the time I don’t get why people do a play by play on the boards of games we all can watch, but since this one was on ESPN+, which I don’t have, it made for an entertaining read. Nice work!

Beeman,

Chop's updates are far better than watching that crap. I sprung for the $6.95 to watch the game. I've wasted a lot of money on women in my life, but none were as big a waste as this disorganized mess.

I wanted to see the last game in The Frank Erwin Center, but after yesterday's debacle I think it's just a waste of time & money. Starters not in "the huddle" during a timeout, rolling their eyes as they break, as well as staring at the crowd rather than their coach.

Suggest the LHB learn the old Roy Clark song "Thank God & Greyhound You're Gone"

It's going to be tough to repeat our Big 12 Conference Championship from last year with (some of) our players appearing not to care. I'm sure not writing us off, but we've got to fix the turnovers we're giving up on O.

Go Horns! Get it together!
(somewhere on the internet, a Longhorn basketball player rolls his eyes...)

I heard a few days ago that some of the team has not taken too well to Beard's super intense style of coaching. I'm guessing most of these guys have been yelled at very seldomly in their lives.

Baylor lost again over the weekend. This is a tough conference. osu whipped the bears by 13. Some of the doomsday prognosticators on HORNFANS might consider slowing down the train of doom and see how February turns out.
The conference champ is going to have at least 4 losses in conference play.

Yep. Looks like what we’ve got this year in the Big 12 is a bunch of teams with stud defenses that could go cold on offense any given night. (or turn the ball over a lot…)
