Incriminating evidence against Chinese gymnasts

IF Phelps, for example, were to be found to have cheated, I would be ashamed. I don't know him, I won't ever know him. But I would be mad and feel betrayed as a citizen of this country that he would do that. Not that he has, just an example.

I think that you would do well as a fan or supporter for a team like Oklahoma. Cheat, make it part of who you are and what you do on a normal basis and then wonder why people have disdain. You know, play the victim. Woe is your type.

Huh. That's funny, because there have been numerous articles noting that the Chinese media was curiously quiet about Phelps, and that many Chinese did not even know his name.

Say, how'd you come across this forum (which has made you so 'sad'), Modano?

The difference is that we don't eat up everything our government tells us with a spoon. We are critical of our government. It seems many Chinese believe the Beijing government = the Chinese people. This is especially odd coming out of Hong Kong.

Why don't you ask Marion Jones how it feels to be stripped of Olympic medals? That "US citizen" label didn't do much for her, did it? And really, that's what she deserved. You don't see any of us saying that its an affront to the American people. Furthermore, the US government was not involved in her training, nor did they condone or encourage her drug use. She made that decision on her own.

The real difference is that the Chinese government is not only condoning cheating, but falsifying documents, and is actively cheating itself.

But I can see why you agree. Who wants to be pulled out of their home and thrown in political prison just for disagreeing with their government's decision in gymnastics? Its not the battle I would choose either.

I don't know where you're posting from, but it's apparently someplace where you're fed only tailored information. Unless you're familiar with the term 5 Mao Party ...

You are posting from Hong Kong. You may not be from there but that is where you are posting from.

I would be scared too if going to jail for dissent was normal. You should apply to protest your ideas, oh yeah, you would be afraid of that too in such a wonderful place.

I guess you have no response to the links and facts that dispute your opinion about the Chinese media. Not shocking.

Modano,

There are several sources showing that China changed the birthdates on passports. China has a history of cheating in gymnastics by using underage athletes:

"Even China's own Yang Yun, a double bronze medalist in Sydney, said during an interview aired on state broadcaster China Central Television that she was 14 during the 2000 Games."The Link

If I was in your shoes, however, I might parrot the party line, too to avoid being sentenced to reeducation through labor like these two old ladies:

Are you one of those government censors? Maybe just an employed internet seeder scouring the web for dissent and seeding goodwill and assimilation?

I will not be lectured about democratic values and fairness by a communist country. You say there is no proof that the Chinese competitors are underage. This is some of the evidence I am considering when I say the Chinese government is engaging in institutional cheating by altering the passports and other govermnent-issued documents:

"Earlier this month, the AP found registration lists previously posted on the Web site of the General Administration of Sport of China that showed both He and Yang were too young to compete. He was born Jan. 1, 1994, according to the 2005, 2006 and 2007 registration lists. Yang was born Aug. 26, 1993, according to the 2004, 2005 and 2006 registration lists. In the 2007 registration list, however, her birthday has changed to Aug. 26, 1992."

And as noted above, China also used underage athletes in the Sydney olympics.

Marion Jones cheated on her own - the US government had nothing to do with it. When she was caught, she was stripped of her medals, which was the right thing to do.

There was not documentation, official documentation and an obvious trail of a cover up that Jones may have cheated. And I am ashamed of her and what she did. She deserves the punishment she gets and shame on her. Disgusting. I don't care what country a person is from, I hope they all get caught and punished somehow. There, how does that make you feel?

You are in denial that there is very convincing evidence at this point, moreso than there has been with other athltetes. Would you like to discuss the past history that China has with cheating in this fashion? You know, with the gymnast mentioned above that ADMITS to have cheated? Do you, can you see where this bolsters ideas that this situation may be true?

I am sorry you are so horrifically brainwashed or with limited intelligence to see facts as they are. I don't know for a fact that the Chinese cheated. But based on the evidence provided and the legitimacy of it I sure think they did. If I had to bet on it, I would say yes.

Will the IOC lose their balls and let them go, probably. Will that mean they did not cheat, nope. It will just mean that the IOC is a wishy-washy entity with no teeth or courage as they have shown at times in the past.

But the thing is the rest of the world knows. They know about the frauds in the opening ceremony, the arrest of people applying for permits to protest, the gymnast debacle and a host of other things. This will affect China and the Olympics will backfire in their faces. I am giddy about that prospect.

I wish for the people of China to one day rid themselves of the idiots that run the country. It is a beautiful country with wonderful people and tremendous, rich history. People like you, regardless of where you are from, and the government cannot fade away fast enough.
