Incredible Game: 74-72 Ags over LSU

There are a number of seemingly undeniable realities relative to Aggie and the sham last night:

Aggie has a ton invested in their program.

Aggie has a fortune invested in Fisher.

Aggie desperately seeks relevance. Desperately!

If history is a reasonable barometer (and of course, it is), there are plenty of reasons to question the integrity of the program.

Fisher has a checkered past, at best. One needs to look no further back than the Jameis Winston case. Rape, stealing... No big deal. He was winning games for Fisher. Look the other way.

I am comfortable speculating that the calls last night were not the result of incompetence but rather, money, threats, or direction from above. Who got to whom may never be known. But what happened doesn’t pass the smell test and rarely is there such an overwhelming consensus of wrongdoing like there has been in the aftermath of this game.

Ironically, by being exposed (but not humiliated because, after all, this is Aggie and this is Fisher), what they hoped to accomplish was not achieved. Their win will forever be tainted, and yet the third loss by LSU (if you can call it that), actually helps the team they both hate and aspire to be, Texas.

Yeah so incredible you punch a guy with Parkinsons. **** aggy and that guy has creds so he wasn’t a fan

You guys sound like Aggies with your whining about officiating. They claim all zebras are on our payroll

Shut up and enjoy a great game from two good teams

I watched until the end.
Rooting for LSU all the way.
And LSU had it's opportunities.
I wish all aggy threads would disappear from this board.
****'em.
Leave em behind.

Huis, I get your point, but there is “bad officiating,” and then there is what happened in College Station (what a coincidence) last night. Rarely does the national media enter the fray...with apparent unanimity.

I am obsessed with the integrity of the game and last night was an embarrassment for all of college football.

One bad call is disappointing but perhaps aberrational. Two, for one team, late in a game, is a very troubling trend. Three (or, in this case, even more) is defined as a conspiracy. And yes, I did say “conspiracy.”

Aggie will laugh it off. That’s what they do. We’ll see if the SEC league office has any integrity. I don’t have high hopes. What will also be interesting will be LSU’s response. I have a feeling that there are some big money boys who don’t appreciate getting screwed. And if the league office does nothing, it will be like pouring salt in the wound.

I certainly wouldn’t mine seeeing LSU in the Big 12. I know. Pipe dream? Yep. But again, there have to be some very pissed power brokers at LSU today.

I guess I don't understand why the SEC would favor a&m over LSU in this officiating conspiracy. LSU was the higher ranked team with an outside chance at the CFP. a&m is....a&m.

Not getting it.

I know we all bag on the B12 officiating but having watched a lot of SEC this year I actually think it worse. They do NOT call holding on the OLines. You can basically tackle the defensive line. I was interested in the Tulsa- Arky game based on our game with Tulsa. There was some of the most egregious spotting of the ball I have ever seen. They mismarked at least 5 plays by a yard and a half that all had 1st down implications. You're going to tell me aggy played 7 OTs and only had 3 penalties in the game??? Damn they must be the best coached team ever!

Well, that is what the aggys claim. T'aint true, but you know how they are.

The conspiracy theories and conference changes just sound stupid. There were several bad calls and they all favored A&M down the stretch. LSU isn't the 1st team to get screwed, but to think LSU would consider leaving the SEC is just dumb. I'd be pissed if I were an LSU fan, but the league isn't doing anything about it. Sometimes life just isn't fair. Sooner people learn that the better.

While you may not agree, I stand by the conspiracy theory...100%. Desperate people — as in “Aggies” — do desperate things. Exhibit A: The hiring of Jimbo Fisher. They are desperate for relevance. Remember, this is Aggie.

With the comment about leaving the SEC I was simply stating that some big money folks are probably fuming. Would they leave the conference over one game? Of course not. But they did get screwed and if the league office doesn’t step up, it will not be received well.

well, duh...the more multiple-loss teams you can get beating up on each other, the stronger the conference MUST be, therefore S-E-C! S-E-C! S-E-C!

LSU was not going to make the CFP. This DOES get them more eyeball appeal for the match-up next year, especially with THIS game having been on a network much of the country does not get as part of a regular package.

Sadly, I actually believed this sort of a close finish was likely when they started pushing the LSU +3.5 narrative in the pre-game shows as the 'underdog with fleas.' I did NOT anticipate that many blown calls in the closing moments and various OT periods...and I don't care WHO you wanted to see win, anyone with eyes that work saw blown calls.

Pardon my ignorance but how is that an illegal formation, yes the inside receivers are covered up but he doesnt throw to them he spikes ball and he has eligible receiver at end of line who isnt covered up. You can be penalized for too few men on LOS but not for too many. So what was illegal?

The assessment on controversy #1 is surprising:

“It’s close but Mond’s knee does appear to touch the ground as he reaches to grasp the ball. The officials correctly got the time right at 36 seconds and also correctly imposed a 10-second run-off of the clock before re-starting play because A&M was out of timeouts.”

This suggests that whenever a QB fumbles, all they have to do “to confirm possession” is “touch the ball when their knee is touching the ground.” So if a QB fumbles a snap and has the entire D closing in on him, he just has to touch the ball — not possess it! — with his knee down and the play is dead?

Someone will need to show me that rule.

C'mon man.
His knee was down as he grabbed the ball.
(Yes, you have to touch it in able to grab it)
Play is dead.

If his knee is down, he touches the ball and it rolls away from him then play continues and ball is live.
Until somebody recovers the ball.
(and yes, they have to touch it to recover it.) ;)

Was LSU jobbed by home cooking and poor officiating vs. Texas A&M?

This Louisiana guy thinks there's one bad call in the bunch

#6 is just plain dumb. It's not the yardage, it's that the play is done and you go to the next overtime. He loses a lot of credibility there. As to the TE fumble, to me it looked like all he did was to start to move the ball to the other hand to get it away from the defender just like you always would. To me that was the worst call because I never see him lose control. He catches it, starts to move it to the outside hand and gets hit and fumbles. It's pretty clear but in replay in college quite honestly I have no idea what they are going to do half the time. Hell, college refs can't even get the spot right half the time. Like they are marking it with their foot, they walk up to the hash, and then just put the ball down in any old place imaginable. Not anywhere close to their right big toe. Difference in college and NFL refs is significant. I also thought the PI was utter BS, but talk to Miami about that after a BS PI cost them a national championship. This was just a game.

Moon, I would really like to see the rule. Perhaps that will clarify the issue. I have watched the play probably 10 times. At least in the replay, the bottom of Mond’s knee is obscured by the kiron.

It would have been fascinating to see what this officiating crew would have called if, instead of an interception, Mond had thrown a touchdown. I’ll bet that the play would not have been called dead because every close call went only one way. But regardless, I can see how it could have been called either dead or live. It’s very close. In other words, did Mond possess the ball when his knee was in contact with the ground? The other obvious ambiguity is that had there been a defensive player in the area who had swated the ball or jumped on it at the same time that Mond, as ruled, “killed it,” the play would have almost certainly been called an LSU recovery. (Of course, in that game, maybe not.)
