and all media in general being all over Tech's nuts once again, I think it is time to get this video back in the mix. IMO, it sums up Tech perfectly. They run a gimic, think they are going to turn the corner and achieve their ultimate goal, only to be put on their *** by THE University.

Tech in a nut shell

I heard Vasher's hit in the west side upper deck. Given Brackens' size advantage as well as the fact the he was going against a kicker while Vasher was going against a position player, I'm going with Vasher.

Honestly, what the hell was the thinking to throw a long pass on a fake punt with a bad-*** DB back to receive? Not well thought out at all.

Westbrook on Kinder has to be in there, too. Richard Peavy knocked DuPree all the way back to Mississippi so he has to be in there.

My step-dad tells of Jeff Leiding's freshman year. He's going down on the kick-off team, dive's over the wall, and delivers a helmet-to-helmet blow against the return man, putting both players out of the game.

I would have liked to have seen that one. I bet Nobis had more than a couple himself.

I was there for our last two defeats in Lubbock and have a healthy respect for the pirates' ability as giantkillers. I also sweated out our atrocious first half against them in '06.

Incidentally, I have some trivia on the holder from the Brackens kicker hit. Field Scovell and the Cotton Bowl trophy were both named for Field's grandfather, Field Scovell. The younger Field's father, John Scovell, QB'd Tech to a win over us in 1967 (the first time DKR ever lost to Tech).

this is the tortilla flingers best shot in years to beat us; and it's in lubbock. If they don't do it this year, might be a while...I mean, come on, they're a top 10 team!

I remember the Jeff Leiding hit very well, I was sitting on the first row of the flashcard section on the student side.
Leiding went airborn over a blocker on the kickoff, and basically knocked the crap out of himself and the return guy. Leiding got up and walked off the field under his own power, but was shakey. The poor return man was basically carried off the field by teamates, he clearly did not know what planet he was standing on... Best hit I ever saw. I could hear it go "crunch".

Ouch. I bet that kicker had nightmares involving Brackens for years after that hit.

I have a healthy respect for the Pirates, and they are definitely a more talented team this year. However, I won't buy into their Top 10 ranking until they can show the world that they are capable of consistently playing defense.

I like Texas in the underdog role for once. I think we are going to see more focusness out of this team than we have seen in a long time. Hopefully our youth can limit mistakes.

Steel Shank - Your step-dad is right on the money. I was also at the game, and remember that Leiding hit. It was a nationally broadcast night game against the Arkansas Razorbacks, which makes it all the sweeter. I was sitting right next to the LHB, which was awsome. Unfortunately, for me anyway, that was the last UT football game I've been able to attend. 4Dec82.

Don't forget Jerry Gray's hit on Bo Jackson in '84: Jerry caught him from behind in the open field and nailed him good, breaking Jackson's arm in the process.

Most deserving hittee: Mackovic. That one did my heart good.

Im not saying either way who i think will win, but i dont think Mike Leach or Graham Harrell or at all worried about having to play against UTs secondary.

I saw neither hit, but Tech at #8 has got to be a sick joke. I see another 8-4 season and trip to San Antonio in their future. They'll beat OSU and A&M, but both UT & OU will own their one-dimensional assess.

mack fan--granted it was in lubbock, but tt has beaten ou 2 of the last 3 years.

let's not act like a tt win over ou is an impossbility shall we.

That play by Jerry G. was great to watch (collar bone by the way). My friends who were Auburn fans kept telling me how Bo would destroy us, Thanks Jerry!

I don't understand all this love for Ruffin McNeil's "vastly improved" Tech defense. That's essentially the same crew on whom we hung 59 points last November.

Seriously, are we supposed to respect them because they shut down a Sooner offense led by Joey Halzle?
