IM SO PISSED....I Hate Direct TV

So I ordered Direct TV last week to get Sunday Ticket. I had it a couple of years ago, and was excited to get it back now that I have a house.

WELL....my installation was cancelled. After two days of calling trying to get to the special department that I needed to talk to, I finally found out the problem.

Apparently, back in 2004 someone had Direct TV at my address. They let their bill default, and the account was sent to a collection agency. Now DTV is telling ME that I need to clear the $200 balance on the account in order to get new service.

In nicer words, I asked "Why the **** should I have to pay for someone else's defaulted balance when I have no clue who the flying fuk they are?"

He responds, "DTV, as a private company has the ability to do that. And our policy is that once an address has an account in default, service can not be turned on again at that address until the balance is cleared"

So I respond, "Even if I just moved in"

Him, "Yes"

Me, "Well I guess DTV is not in the business of making money as you would get that $200 back in 2 months of me paying my bill, not too smart.

Him, "DTV, as a private company has the ability to set our own conditions, and our policy is...BLAH BLAH F'n BLAH

I talked to 3 people, SUPPOSEDLY more important as the calls went on...same mess. I really want Sunday Ticket, but Im not about to give them $200...thats just BS.

Man, that is a bunch of horse crap. Keep your patience and try to work it out with the retention department. Not sure if you've been speaking with "normal" CSRs, but I've had the retention department credit my account for well over $1000 during the past 7 years.

That doesn't make any sense at all... Someone missunderstood something at some point... I know that boxes themselves can carry balances, but not a home address where you just moved in... unless of course the previous account was under your relative's name especially your wife... I would call back untill they fixed that mess...

Something is really wrong. Like mentioned above someone's wires are crossed. I have Direct TV since I moved back to Texas and have had nothing but great service.

Ok, I know whats wrong. The previous guy has my wife's maiden name as his last name, and we started the account under her name. So basically they just think I am full of **** and lying to them.

They think he is a relative. I said over and over I dont know him, and he says, "well maybe you should ask your wife if she knows him.

Me: "I think I know my wife's family...she is my wife."

I tried to get more info on the person with the account and they said,

"If you claim you dont know him I dont feel comfortable giving you information about him"

Me: "Oh, but you feel comfortable letting me pay his bill...."

Him: "SIR, SIR, lets not get out of line, let me transfer you..."

And now they tell me the account was opened Sept. 2004 and closed April 2008. Ive been here since January 2008. I offered to send them my Comcast bills for the year and they had none of that.

Frustrating...they dont believe me at all. And it sucks b/c the house we are living in is owned and under my wife's sisters name, who also has the same last name as the "guy". Her sister confirmed there has never been a satellite on the property. Jeez...

When we moved into our apartment, the previous tenant had an outstanding balance with Time Warner. All we had to do to avoid paying it was provide a copy of our lease that proved we were new residents.

And this is Time Warner we're talking about.

If they're really being that inflexible, just go to Dish.

Have you thought about installing yourself under your name. Have the bill sent to another address. (friend, relative...............) that is on cable. Then after 6 months "move" to your actual address.

Would you believe you? I probably wouldn't.

What you should do is agree to pay the $200 but negotiate for some stuff in return. Say 6mos. of HBO and free Superfan. I've heard that D* can be very generous in negotiations.

directTV is horrible. i just cancelled because of their terrible customer service. their customer service is useless.

What a ClusterF situation. You're renting from your sister-in-law who happens to have the same last name as a previous tennent at the same address who stiffed DirecTV $200? And this is all some great coincidence? GMAFB!

I'm not here to say that DirecTV is the greatest organization in the world, but don't come screaming on this forum what a victim you are when if I were DirecTV I would be saying the same thing to you as well - "I call bull$hit"

Have a nice day.

Dude... I don't believe you.

You live in you sister in law's house that was owned/rented by someone with the same last name as your sister in law and wife.

It was probably your nephew.

I have nothing against Direct TV, but I'm looking forward to going back to cable after missing significant portions of a UT football game in each of the last two seasons because it was raining outside.

Its probably someone that moved from Austin, or wanted Austin locals outside the Austin area... or maybe even a former tenant that lives away that used that address so they could get Austin channels... All you have to do is turn off paper billing, and pay online... the real home owner would never know.

BTW... I've had Dish, TimeWarner, Cox, Grande... all for at least 2 years each... Nothing equals Directv, and I probably will never change it... I don't know what the problem was for all those of you hating directv, but I guarrantee that chances are you'll have the same bad service on the other ones... maybe not yet, but at some point.

I guess I'm just lucky like that... And to me, the guides and programming don't even compare... TW, grande, cox are all pieces of ****...

Well for the update, I fought with them a couple of more times, they did not want to help me out and I finally said screw it.

Another year of f'n sopcast & bars to watch anyone other than the Cowboys or Texans. At least my new home will be finished by next season and I can get Sunday Ticket then...sigh...that is unless someone claimed that lot on a fake account too with my wife's maiden name!
