I'm done with Tim Beck

I am so done with Tim Beck. I haven't posted in over a decade and I'm so fired up and furious with his play calling I cannot resist. I think Sam Ehlinger will overcome his horrible lateral and run up the middle calls, but the first 2 series of the Okie State game are inexcusable. We all know we have an inexperienced o-line and bad running backs! Now he puts us in a position of playing from behind. That's the real reason we struggle to win some of these close games. Time for a new play caller!!

I'm not to your level yet, but I do recall how happy OSU fans were when Herman hired him away. Their offense was terrible under Beck... Or at least their fans thought so.

I'm not sold either, but man... when your o-line is this much of a train wreck, it's hard to tell what should be working, and what they're not doing because they don't think they can do it with their personnel.

When we're not playing third-teamers on the line, I'll probably be more critical, but right now, I just don't know.

That's exactly why I'm not judging his abilities yet. Five true freshmen starting and zero depth except receivers.

I remember reading an article that basically said "Texas has the makings of a line that could be a team strength, as long as it doesn't get anyone hurt." And I thought to myself... "OK, fasten your seat belts. The wheels are about to start coming off." Whatever weird curse our line has been under wasn't gonna let that go without some serious repercussions.

We just don't have that kind of talent on the OL. Regardless of how people see that unit, there aren't enough healthy bodies. It's just meh.

I'm sorry but if anyone watched the last play of regulation and thinks we have a functional offensive line, then I don't really know what to tell you.

Then do something different.
Pull some guards, run some counters, use a fullback...get ******* creative.
As someone said, we have the talent to be better than this.

I hear this a lot. I'm not sure. We don't have a single skill position player that would scare me as a DC. No one that makes you miss AND can take it to the house. There's no one that you gotta really worry about that will make a defense pay. We've got some quality possession receivers, but mostly pedestrian RBs, a tought running QB that can get first downs. But all you've got to do is play press man our outside guys and bring pressure. We can't make you pay for it.

Exactly, this is my point. We know the weaknesses and the gaps that we have so plan and scheme for them. Boot leg Sam out like we seemed to a bit against OU and then give him the option to run. Instead we keep trying to run the RBs or worse when we called the QB up the middle today on key plays. I understand you have to call some of those to keep a defense honest, but do that on 2nd and 3 or when it isn't a key down and distance!

Ten points. 10 points. TEN POINTS! And without one fluke play we would have had three points.

Complain all you want about the O-Line and yes, they are beleaguered but come on, this offense is just pathetic regardless. No, I don't expect 40 points a game. But we can, should and must do better than this. Either that or let's just call it a season and concede a 3-9 record because 10 points will only get you a win against SJSU and maybe ISU, after a crazy good D effort.

I agree completely with the OP. Make changes. Be creative. Where was Young? Do something. But one has to do a pretty pathetic job of coaching to score only 10 points against a mediocre D like OSU
...and without any turnovers...in regulation.

Herman insisted on bringing in Beck. It's on Herman. And maybe Herman can't do it either.

And after an extraordinary defensive effort, the team must be demoralized. I know that much of the fan base is...

What does healthy bodies have to do with not blowing your assignment

I didn't see blown assignments, I saw tackles that were completely overmatched by simple speed rushes off the edge. I saw pockets getting consistently collapsed. Not necessarily guys running free through gaps, just breaking through blocks.

The offensive line was completely overmatched, just like they were last year.

I consider getting your but handed to you as blowing your assignment because you didn’t get the job done

We had a 2k Yard rusher last year the line want that bad I would like to think they had something to do with that

I'm not sure that the O-Line is much worse. In 2016 we had a 2,000 yard rusher that often made something out of nothing. His brilliance made the line better, and it made Buechele's life easier.

This year we have, at best, mediocre running backs. Warren has become a better blocker and a good receiver. But he has no shake at all. None. And no vision. Carter may develop but he has not yet had the chance and Young has barely seen the field.

Put Foreman in that backfield and I'll bet we would be talking about a 6-1 season. But it is what it is and we have to do better, much better, with what we have.

I agree with the OP. Let Beck go. I would say that Herman has to go also but that would be a revolution and anarchy at the present moment. to me TH is just an amateurish coach. now I know he's a great recruiter, that's proven already, but he can't coach on game day. But I also believe he's misusing certain players.

oh ********, with that OL and a true frosh QB any consistant offense is a pipe dream no matter what you call. This team is playing hard from start to finish which is something that never happened under Strong. One good in all of this is that we are building some serious OL depth for future seasons. Pulling and other suggestions aren't the answer either, hell they have trouble drive blocking much less executing a pulling manuver.

in spite of ongoing comments on here, greg davis was part of 10-win teams that scored points. while not perfect, i hope people appreciate him a little more now. lol

Biggest problem with Beck is that he gives up on the run too quickly if we get stuffed early. The only scoring drive we had the entire game(besides the Burt miracle) was where we had a balanced attack between the run and pass. Even if we're not having great success we still have to stick with it to a certain extent.
