IKE

thought I was going to lose power here in Garden Oaks about an hour ago. I heard the transformers making that intermittent humming sound. But then it backed off.

An Austin reporter at 930 clocked winds in Clearlake at about 35 mph. Then at 10 it was 75mph. Big difference and quickly.

Well....we're still here in 77381....lots of rain, some win gusts but not too bad yet. Certainly not counting any blessings. Sounds like worse is still 2 hours away.

Persevere and if you can, updates till you go to sleep and let us know when you decide to go to sleep if you think about it. That is if you have power.

Brennan's (sp?) in downtown Houston up in flames, out of control. Been there 45 years per KTRK report via CNN.

I hope all in the path of this storm are OK.

Where's MY hurricane? Hell, we put everyone's life on hold and it looks like we won't even get a drop here in Bastrop Co.

Everyone in E. Texas stay safe.

77084 - wind seems to be subsiding quite a bit. We lost fences on 3 sides of the house and wind turbines in some people's front yard. Power went out between 1 and 2 AM but then flickered again about 5AM. Hope that is a good sign. I took a few pics - not great though. Riding the Storm Out

Glad to see that the lost's are not of the millions without power and that fencing may be the worst hit in your abode. You are lucky. I hope all of our posters are lucky in this regard as well.

I am seeing that people in the Orange County are still in need of rescue. Some are on top of their roofs and have been there since 3 a.m. They are trying to get to them as they can and the Coast Guard still cannot get their birds up in the air safely.

Millions affected and this does not count those affected by energy resources. Some in Georgia and Florda are paying 5 to even 6 bucks for a gallon of gas. WTF, over? Some stations and areas just have no gas at all to sell. But they should by tomorrow.

9:20PM Saturday night - we are still without power but we had nothing better to do today (well we could have started cleaning up the yard, but...) so I called up my brother in Wimberly and we met him in Luling to borrow his generator. Back home by 7:00PM.

So right now we have the deep freeze and the two fridges back online and cold.

Beer, white wine and other assorted beverages!!! Saved the meat in the freezers, too. Only lost 2 cartons of Blue Bell and ice.

Got the TV on the generator as well, but cable is still out. So we watch the little analog TV right now. Router and modem are on a battery pack, charging on the generator. Should have stopped at Walmart along I-10 to buy a couple box fans, though, but did not think of it till we were back here.

We were lucky here. Seems like the most damage here in far west Houston is uprooted trees and downed limbs. They all seemed to miss going through windows around here too, falling to the side instead. As much as I hate making the days up, I really hope school is cancelled Monday.

I am in baytown and it sucked...very bad, lots of downed trees, fences, sheds etc...my home was ok but we just got back from trinity bay and our bayhouse is completely gone....nothing but slab from what i can tell standing up the hill and using my camera to zoom in...unbelievable

Very sorry to hear about that V4H, that sucks. I hope that your dealings with insurance go quickly and without much if any argument.

I bailed for Austin from Kingwood Thursday morning since I can do all my work via VPN, and a had a free place to stay.

From what I'm hearing Kingwood is giant mess. Just drving around you'll see trees down and in houses, but as of yesterday afternoon the roads were clear.

Apparently we lost most of our fence, but nothing happened to the house.

Here's a link to Centerpoint's outage updates if you haven't stumbled across them already:
The Link

I don't own a generator, and I have to say I'm in no rush to get back until power's back.

Does anybody know the website for live or post-Ike satellite pictures? I found some satellite pics that I can zoom in on, but they are pre-Ike. Just wanted to take a look around LaMarque.

I don't know of a link like what you asked for but try CNN. They have a part of the site called i-link or something like that. It is where viewers or readers send in their photos with location and info on the shots. Maybe somebody from that area sent some in.

edit: it is called i-report

V4H sorry to hear about the beach house. Some friends of mine are waiting word on their house in Jamaica Beach and another friend of Lostboy #1 sent an e-mail pic with a beach house on fire and others around it saying "Guess which house is ours?" Video feeds coming out of Galveston, Bolivar, Kemah, are sad. I would love to live by the water, and I hurt for the people who did.

Chickendog, glad to hear it was nothing but fences for you.

Power went on here in our little secton of far west Houston about 12:30 this afternoon and stayed on finally. There were a few "teasers" earlier this morning. Got the front yard pretty cleaned up. Work on the back yard tomorrow. Right now laundry, dishes and house stuff needs attention.

School is cancelled in Cy Fair Mon, Tues, and Wed at least. We were told they are assessing building damages and may need to extend the closures past Wednesday. I am sure the kids wont mind, until we have to make the days up.

Last night's storms did not help matters either.

the weather people were wrong about the size of the storm surge, but they were right about fearing ike. ike is turning out to be a hell of a storm in terms of property damage.

it's still early but i'm only hearing 8 confirmed deaths attributed to ike, 5 in texas, 2 in louisiana and 1 in arkansas, i think. but i fear there will be more when the policed and officials can get to bolivar, surfside and west beach areas.

hurricanes are teh suck.

We got power back on in Friendswood. Food, gas and ice are scarce in the area. Some stores are open with limited supplies.

I image Galveston would have looked a lot like Gilchrist if:

1. There had been no seawall.
2. The storm surge had gotten to 22 feet as predicted, effectively going over the sea wall.

77063

Still without power, although it looks like I'm surrounded by others that do (hopefully a good sign). Today is the first day I've been on the internet other than the occasional score thru my cell phone, since Friday.

seems like everything east of i-45 got the raw end of the stick. i have a lot of relatives in the greater houston area. luckily most of them are north harris/montgomery area. my cousin in tomball said their yard is a lake and lost power until yesterday afternoon.
i do have older relatives in pasadena though. havent heard any word about that area as i suspect it's probably bad.

also have relatives in humble and cleveland. anyone know about those areas? i know spring is damn close to humble. how bad up in cleveland? anyone?

talked to cousin in cleveland and said power is still out. woodlands power should be coming on today and tomorrow.

I live in the Beaumont/Pt Arthur area and our neighboring communities of Bridge City, Orange, Sabine Pass, and a couple of others got completely demolished by the storm surge. Some like Sabine Pass may never be rebuilt. Good luck to all in my area.

Still no power for me. Only net access is at work (finally back up) and at friends when I have a chance. I live in Cottage Grove (I-10 and TC Jester) and we should have power back by Thursday according to CenterPoint. However, seeing how that transformer a block down from us is still in the ditch, I am not too optimistic.

My mom has a house on Crystal Beach. Yes, it is actually still there. We found pictures online that indicate the house is there but with heavy damage. The house next door is completely gone. The house is two blocks from the water, although it's classified as the 4th row.

Best wishes to all that have been effected by Ike.

Still no power in Garden Oaks either. I've noticed that even the phone company has to rely on generators to keep the landlines going. But the appear to have dropped DSL and Uverse service.

A borrowed generator has been my savior.
