I know it's early...

... and I know they don't really count for much, but does Baseball America have something against us evidence by our absence from their poll?

Havent really played anyone yet (no offense to Nebraska but they would finish 6th or 7th in Big XII this year). Lets see how the Horns do this weekend in Palo Alto win a couple of games and they will shoot up the rankings.

The best team we have faced is UTA and every game
has been at home, plus we lost one of those.

Stanford still has Appel, but I don't think their quite as
good as last year. They lost two out of three against Rice in Houston including Appel's start.

Still will be by far the toughest competition we have faced and first road series.

The problem with playing early is that you have to find out who can play and need to play those who
could be starters to find out what they can do under pressure. If you only play all the time who you think
the starters are , then you will never find those who might come in as a backup when you need them.
Mid week games are for finding out who are those backup players and pitchers who can perform if needed.

If anything, loosing a midweek game early in the season means that your depth in the lineup is not as good as it should be.

We have no offense. Stanfrod is not a great team, and they completely shut us down. We are in for another loooooong season.

I would agree our bats were pathetic and look like a feeble repeat of last season. However, I will disagree and say Stanford does have seriously stout pitching, no doubt top-10. The Friday and Sunday starter have an assortment of pitches, including a powerful fastball, effective change-up, and nasty slider to name the top 3.

Either way it's no excuse for these guys to be so inept facing quality pitching. Yeah yeah, hitting will come around as the season progresses, hear it every year. It perplexes me to no end to see over and over how we can't get a solid hitting lineup for the majority of the order around here anymore. Consistency with threatening power mixed in the lineup.

If this team doesn't light up a pitcher for singles or walks, we can't score over 4-5 runs against a very solid baseball team, if that. Why can't we get some potent bats? And not just a couple.

The sky is not falling yet and this team will improve and achieve more than last year, but geez, we are Texas. Get a lineup that represents us correctly again. I say just get ready for a 2nd place finish in a regional we travel to. That's my early prediction after seeing how confused our hitters are by strong pitching. We have enough good pitching of our own to get us in the tournament and win a few games.
