Good Lord, you all sure have short memories.
By the way, both Mickey Mantle and Chipper Jones were/are both switch hitters, not lefties. Chipper is up to .418 on the season, so he is hitting almost 100 points higher than Hamilton.
Showalter is an idiot. Greatest performance by a left handed hitter ? I don't think so. He might want to look at some numbers from the last decade at least before making that kind of statement. Or at least see what Hamilton does in a longer period of time than the first 2 months of the season. Want me to give you some stats of lefties to compare him to ???
Hell, Nate McLouth the Pirates CF is a lefty and his numbers are almost as good as Hamilton, he's hitting .315 with 12 homers and he is no good.
In fact, I would argue the trade for Hamilton wasn't really a good one. The Rangers have always been able to score runs. They just haven't figured out how to pitch and thus will always be a team around .500 or so until they figure out the other side of the game.
Meanwhile, the guy they gave up for him is 24 years old and leading the NL in ERA and has won 7 games with the awful Cincinnati Reds.
I like Hamilton, but you all act like school girls at an Elvis concert.
