Boston is hitting the reset button about two years too late. It's good that they're unloading so much payroll to make room for pitching, and they have more than enough production out of guys like Ross and Podsednik to make up for losing Crawford. But all of their problems were caused by a panic-based reaction to a seller's market.
They're going to have to spend a bunch on the open market just to get a #3 guy for next year. But at least it won't be in vain.
listening to the Bosox tv announcers, they hinted that Josh Hamilton was their biggest target, then pitching in the winter. I think they have it backwards, but expect them to offer Josh a lot
re: Josh....Remy and his buddy in the booth may want Josh in Boston, but apparently the FO doesn't. Report on NESN was they don't want him.
Odd how this works out......Josh is the lone OF superstar type available, yet not many slots are open to him outside of Texas.
LAD= Ethier, Kemp, Victorino (FA), Crawford.
LAA= crowded OF already
NYY= reportedly not interested b/c Josh can't handle NYC
BOS= says "no"
PHI- Possibility, but has shed some contracts.
Those are the perennial big spenders that I can think of.....Maybe the Cubs, or Nats w/h an interest....
One team that I think might pay for Josh is SF......They know they have to keep up w/ LAD somehow (to keep the fanbase engaged like they are currently). Josh can play LF there, and if Pence goes FA after 2013 he can play that canyon in RF.
Cana,

If those pitching prosects come thru, and they're supposed to be extremely good prosepcts, then Bosox definitely got the good end of the deal & got better too imo

We've had the best lineup in baseball the past 2 yrs & have been beaten by pitching staffs in the WS that happened to outpitch us, and teams that didn't beat themselves in the field...... AGon and Crawford haven't panned out for a reason.....and they don't pitch.
I think LAD is approaching it wrong. They're looking for 'star power' stuff, the Showtime Laker nonsense that worked well before NBA teams had defensive specialists & defensive minded teams to stop that stuff. It doesn't work anymore.
I read and heard LAD is vying for Buerhle after the season. He's been average at best this yr, another sign they're after "names". LAD will be in the poorhouse of MLB pretty quick, tv deal or not.
Actually, Tori Hunter's big fat contract in LA is expiring and after wasting a lot of money on Abreu and Venon Wells, why not pay an outfielder who can really hit? Funny think even with 2 all stars in the outfield and Hunter, Pujols at first and four starters that would be designated the Ace on most pitching staffs, the Angels are closer to last place in the west than first. Maybe one more incredible bat in the lineup will make all the difference. I don't know. Assembling all that talent looks like the work of Front Office Executive of the Year kind of work -- except for all the games the Angels are losing.
