The fair tax simply takes the punitive away from earning and puts it on spending. It's still punitive. You just want to switch where it's punitive.
And really, that has nothing to do with my original point, which was that it's absurd to equate the democratic view on taxes with a view that says higher earners are by default "evil."
This whole thing to me is like driving a car with a parachute behind you. You want the car to get better gas mileage, so you start tweaking the engine (taxes) to get better results. All the while, you ignore the biggest problem you have - the f'ing parachute (spending) dragging you down.
Let's fix the spending problem and then worry about our revenue collection. It's an EXTREMELY risky proposition to overhaul the entire revenue stream in the midst of the spending habits we have now.
