"Texas always has a very polished team that has great talent, but they aren’t tough, they aren’t a physically tough team."

Rudy Carpenter was unavailable for comment.

"Sorry, Mr. Schnellenberger, I didn't catch that. Would you mind repeating it?"

I don't disagree with anything in that quote. Hell, I'd love to hear/read some of that kind of attitude from Mack from time to time. I suppose we'll see soon enough how we respond.

There shouldn't be a disconnect here. The things that Schnellenberger said are things every coach should say. To his team.

I don't want my team's coach saying it to the press about any opponent. And especially not the next opponent.

i agree with huck.

also, i don't think mack needs to say **** other than point out to his team that the rest of the nation thinks they are weak. if they want to end that they can whip someone's ***.

In fairness to Schnelly that interview was conducted after 3PM which means he obviously mistook the reporter for a bartender. He was just trying to act all big & tough in hopes that he'd get a free round.

I would say those quotes are extremely dubious.

But if they work as bulletin board material, I don't care if they were conjured up out of thin air or not.

TEXAS might take a lesson from the USA Olympic, world record setting , 4X100 freestyle swimming team that was "insulted" by the French team prior to the event earlier this week....

Stay cool, kick their ***, then walk over and shake their hands

Schnellenberger speaks the truth.

Not saying that FAU is going to be successful, but the point that Texas does not impose its will on opponents is valid.

Maybe Muschamp will be the igniter to light a spark for this bunch. But more importantly we need studs on both side of the ball to play with big chips on their shoulders.

Much has been said about the change in attitude after the A&M game last year, and the Horns were more physical in the bowl game. They need to sustain that beyond one game to prove themselves a physically tough team.

Toughness means stopping the run. Converting 3rd and short consistently. Moving the sticks on the ground. Imposing your will and doing what you do successfully even when the opponent knows what's coming.

"Heads or tails? It don't make a sh*t."

That's toughness.

I'm looking forward to seeing if we have any badasses on this team.

I guess Adarius Bowman and Oklahoma State didn't get that message last year when he went off for 6 catches, 135 yards, and 2 TD in a 42-6 blowout.

What a tool.

Heh, this from the guy who got run off from OU after one year for losing to Colorado, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, and Nebraska, and tying Texas. And yes, he reportedly has a fondness for the sauce.

Where there is some grain of truth to Schnelly's comments, I think airing them in public is a huge tactical error. If Coach Boom's attitude and toughness rubs off on this year's team, then I think we can all safely say it will be a long day for Schnelly and the FAU Whatchamacallits when they play Texas.

(Sorry I'm too lazy to look up their mascot right now.)

Let me play the Devil's advocate for a moment.

His Louisville team beat Texas 41-10 fifteen years ago. That team was ranked and favored to win.

We paid him back next year at home as you recall, I am sure. We were trailing 16-9 - all our points off of Dawson FG's - at the half, but the Texas defense shut them down and we won 30-16. He's undefeated in bowl games, beating a stout NU team in 1983, I believe. He put Miami back on the map.

This will not have a happy ending on August 30th.

Howard will shut down our running game and harass Colt in the pocket with his heavy run stopping defense. His offensive attack will be a balance of effective runs and passing that will overwhelm Muschamp by halftime. He will also control the time of possession at the half.

The good news is we will make adjustments to his adjustments that will exploit our talent over his, which is considerable. But he is as strong a Head Coach as any Mack will face in game day real time strategy.

The bad news is we still lose by 10 points.

As a rule, teams named the Owls haven't fared well at DKR. I believe the last time any Owls defeated the Horns in Austin, Eisenhower was president.
