How come all of our sports of late not coached by Tom and Shaka are doing great vs mediocre results?

2003,

Have you ever seen a Stanford grad, fan, or student wearing a "Directors Cup" cap or shirt? They don't even sell them at the Track Shack in Palo Alto.

"Diminish"? Not at all. It was an award created by Sears to honor economically destressed and under performing programs to help get their "too cool to care crowd" to open their checkbooks.

I don't know many Stanford grads (for better or worse I'm not sure) but because of the old rules Stanford won this every year because not only do they have a very solid athletic program, but they also have twice as many varsity sports as anyone else.

Texas prides itself on its athletics program. We do care that our ladies won the tennis title and the crew title, right? Our men won the swimming title. Almost won the volleyball title. Baseball has a real shot in Omaha.

I may be different than yall, but I'm thrilled if Texas gets a trophy for having the best athletics program this year. We should have won it at least twice more in the 2000s.

It elevates the entire program. Sure, individual sports titles are nice, but being honored for being the best overall athletics program is most welcome.

Better check again....

So what? I want the GODZ 40 ACRES shirt.

By July 1, they will be 5 for a dollar
By July 15th, images will be available of them being worn by kids in the poorest of the African nations. Previously they had been offered aggy national championship apparel but it seems that even poor kids in those nations have standards...

I can't believe how many of you don't care about having the best athletics program in the country and accepting an award that literally recognizes that.

I would like to see Texas nationally ranked and winning at the top level in every sport, BUT until a sport is self sufficient and packs a big stadium, I am not going to lose sleep over Stanford. Fact is, Stanford donations are directly proportionate to the number of football games won. (Check the last 50 years0

Football in Austin brings in about $14 million per game, which is about what basketball brings in all year. UNC grosses more on basketball than any school in America, and they bring in less than $20 million total.

I believe our baseball program still pays its own way, but I'm not sure since most of "Jeff Ward's Fan Club" have died off.

What Eddie Reese did with swimming is nothing short of miraculous. For those too young to remember, swimming was for years a three school sport - Stanford, SMU, Indiana. I'm glad he shattered that ceiling.

Tennis was the same as swimming with just a couple of schools dominating.

Golf was dominated by Third Ward - no class attendance required, just win.

Track changed dramatically when UTEP started importing all the foreigners.

Chris has done a great job so far with the candy truck, but I expect more. I hope we are nationally competitive in all sports and add lacrosse soon. That said, I could give a **** about some cheesy trophy with a goofy name. Will I give more if we win it? NO! Will I give less if we don't? NO!

Compare the percentage value of the marketing sales after 2005 and after this year's Directors Cup victory. Ain't gonna be a pretty comparison.

Yeah, the Sears trophy was a made up award to allow for the extolling of whoever wins a lot in various friends and family sports like rowing, swimming, tiddly-winks, etc.

Any trophy won by the same school for 20 years isn't a real award.

Until they changed the rule for maximum sports counted I agree because Stanford has a solid athletics program across the board and they have twice as many varsity sports as everyone else so it was never a fair contest. Texas would have won it with the current rules a few times already. No one can compete if women's badminton and water polo are going to be counted every year so the rule change should make this a real contest now.

If we win across the board we will always be in contention for tip program. I just think it's great. Anyway.

Texas should just come up with some strange "sports" like water women's badminton, meat judging (eat your heart out ATM!), and breakdancing (a medal sport in the next Olympics) that no one else plays, award themselves the National Championship, then cast the foolish Sears trophy in cement as it's never leaving the 40 acres.

We have had a great quiddich team....

OP's Question, "How come all of our sports of late not coached by Tom and Shaka are doing great vs mediocre results?"

Well, because they aren't coached by Tom and Shaka.

I wondered when someone would get the gist of my post.

Funny you should mention that. I just saw the CO-OP has decided to stock up on these 3 when it all becomes official [click on each for full-size]:

No one calls it the Southeastern Conference - except when you're looking for it in a list of conferences. It's the SEC, said thrice.

And while I wouldn't miss them, the map doesn't have OK in it.
