Horns vs. ttu

We need to add a post who can come in and play immediately.
Maybe that open offer to Thon Maker will pan out...*crickets*. Banks is an immediate difference maker but all we got from him is LOI. Jarrett Allen could be a starter as a FR. Gotta get him too though. Taylor still doesn't have a jump shot. I've read NBA stock value summaries that say he actually scores lower now than he did in his Sophomore season prior to his injury. IF he goes, wish him the best. IF he stays, I think we have potential to be a juggernaut with him in the lineup.

If that happens, I won't post on this website again
H-H, I love your passion, but you seem so quick to the negative thoughts. Sort of like you've been captured by the "dark side." (Star Wars reference here)

What you may be missing is the "investment" approach.

You instead are espousing a gamblers "win all, win now, or its nothing. This is the all in gamblers approach. Kind of like when my son was ten years old and playing little league. If he struck out he would scream and cry that he "was the worst player in the world!" Even though he was batting .400 and hitting home runs regularly. Kids usually grow out of this by the time they get into college.

The investment approach implies that there is growth and high return in the future. That is, recruit great players, watch them get better over a couple of years and keep doing this ad infinitum. Look at Self at Kansas and Kruger at ou. both have been doing this for years so they reload each year seemingly seamlessly.

Give Shaka a chance to develop his players, his depth and his recruiting stream. You will be happy. And it will happen. I promise.

I understand what you're saying, and I am invested in Shaka, a hell of a lot more than Charlie Strong. But I don't believe in sunshine pumping when we flat lost to a bad team such as Texas Tech.

Texas and Shaka Smart will be competitors in the future, it's just not a good time to be a Longhorn right now because Texas is well below average in every major sport right now. I have absolutely no faith in football changing for the better under Charlie Strong, and honestly I believe he's digging such a deep hole here that it's going to make things near impossible for the next guy. I've voiced that already on other posts on this board.

I believe in Shaka, and they will be good once good athletes come here and compete. But, I'm just calling it as it is: Texas will win very few games this year without Ridley, and will look lost in the majority of their conference games. It is what it is: a really crappy time to be a Longhorn. I'm invested to the point where it won't always be like that in basketball, but as long as other coaches are here, it will continue to be a crappy time to be a longhorn for other sports.

H_H, do you really believe that an 11-1 ttu team with some decent wins on its schedule is a bad team? You know, Tubby is an excellent coach, has won a national championship and taken multiple teams into the NCAA tourney over the years.

Anyway, appreciate the dialogue in the above post; don't agree with everything, but agreement is not what its about. Good respectful dialogue is the ticket. Hookem.

I appreciate the dialogue as well. I know I'm very rough around the edges and sarcastic a lot, and I know it rubs a lot of people the wrong way on this board. Believe me, it's from a place of care and concern in regards to Texas's athletic program, despite the fact that a lot of it may be clouded by displeasure in the current state of affairs

Tech is a middle table team that will make the NCAA tournament. They're not a bad team. But they are beatable. UConn was also beatable. With CAM, we're easily 10-3 and in the top 20 and rising with momentum, no question. This season is going to be rough. But we have to move on from this. We will move on. Most importantly, we have to stay positive.

We replaced a coach and system that wasn't working with a brand new coach and a new system. He's young, energetic, talented, and positive and I think we were all glad we got him. With him came some really talented young recruits that aren't going to be one and done. These are guys Coach Smart can build a team around. And were getting more good players to build on that nucleus. The outlook is not that grim short term.

I know every year for the last decade it's felt like "next years going to be the year". But like what Caryhorn alluded to; if you fold enough bad hands, you at least get to stay at the table. Eventually, you'll get hot and take the stack down.

I don't get the insistence on Tech being an awful team either.

And how do they keep convincing such big names to come to Lubbock?

This keeps being brought up and he keeps ignoring it.

I don't know if it's happened THAT often... but I think when they took a flier on Bob Knight when he was basically radioactive, they gained some credibility as a place where a name coach could go. I'm trying to remember, but Tubby had been fired from Kentucky and later Minnesota, so I feel like his stock had dropped a little. So it may have been a case again of Tech jumping on a guy who was probably undervalued.

Bob Knight was a big name. Radioactivity aside, the guy is a 3x MNC winning hall of famer. Tubby won a MNC with Pitinos team, but a MNC nonetheless. Lubbock is a crap hole. I don't see how they get anyone to coach there.
