Horns vs. ttu

This will not be an easy win for the Horns Saturday. (Nothing like stating the obvious.) Raiders are 10-1. Only loss to a very good Utah team. However, they have played a fairly easy schedule. Nothing like the murderers row that our guys have played.

Tubby Smith is still an excellent coach. He's got his team on the right track, and has brought them along slowly, but steadily, with a schedule that has helped them gain confidence for the grueling B12 schedule ahead.

With Ridley we win by double digits. With Cam out the games a toss up. Our freshmen have to show up big. We will be favored, but the team with a hot hand wins.

Go Horns!!! :hookem2::hookem2:

I didn't realize they were 10-1. Haven't looked at their schedule but that seems like still a pretty solid performance at this point.

Their SOS two games ago wasn't that bad:

Rank...........................Rec..........SOS..................Opp winning %

28……….Texas Tech…..8-1………..0.5875……………0.6196 (31)

And has improved:

14....Texas Tech.......10-1 ............0.5923.............0.6357 (14)

But, our SOS also got better, was 16, now 5:

16……….Texas……………8-3……..…0.6069……………0.6480 (19)

5 ......Texas ...............8-4 ............0.6116 ...............0.6621 (5)

Their record is not an illusion. Gonna be a tough game. :bevo:

Edit: FYI current line is Tech -4.5

Odiase and Tech will own the paint. They're going to put 2 on Taylor all day and stifle Felix with their big guards and perimeter pressure. Need to see a lot of dribble drive to kick outs off screens to Lammert and Mack. Snoop and Davis should be X factors that won't get a lot of attention. If either (or both) of them can get hot behind the arc, we win convincingly. If no one is hitting 3's, we're going to struggle and lose by 10. I wouldn't be surprised if Ibeh gets close to double digit blocks.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ibeh fouls out with less than 5 points, less than 5 rebounds and less than 5 blocks. Horns behind by 6 with Ibeh a non factor so far. He looks overmatched, slow and confused.

Shaka just called time out. I hope he's able to make an adjustment to help Ibeh get into the rhythm of the game.

Horns down by 11 at the half. Ibeh and Cleare both have 0 points. Don't know how we can win with two dead guys playing the post. And its one shot and done, as we cannot get any offensive rebounds.
Does not look good. :brickwall:

The fouls and shooting. Good gosh.

Taylor looks like Taylor from the Butler game again. Drive, jack up a floater, miss, get back on D.

Guards combined to shoot 7-25 in the first half. I mean... that's not good. Smart has a lot of work to do in convincing kids to come to Texas who can actually shoot the ball.

Taylor was the only reason this game wasn't a total blowout.

Texas can't win when making so many fouls, without Ridley. The free throws desparity was bad enough with him playing. Can't play 40 minutes of havoc, with everybody on the bench in foul trouble.

Ibeh can't help you at all on offense, Cleare either picks it up or it all depends on the outside shooting.

It will be interesting to see how Smart recruits and what style he plays, when he gets his players in Austin.

I knew Ibeh was a liability; when we really have to depend on him we are in trouble. But the rebounding today was awful. We had almost no second chance baskets.

Also, why the heck isn't Taylor dishing more to Felix? Taylor was feeding Roach and Davis, neither of whom were hitting 3's. Felix is our most dependable 3 point shooter. Taylor needs to look for him when slashing is blocked off.

Having said that, Gotcher from ttu was hot; unstoppable. I don't think he will repeat that performance in Austin. So I think we have a good shot to win the rematch.

Losing to two unranked teams in a row, one of which is consistently the worst team in the Big 12. Awesome. (Sorry if this offends you, @Sangre Naranjada)

Cheers to another CBI season. What a terrible, terrible time to be a Texas Longhorn

His team leading 10 rebounds was respectable considering the guy is only averaging 11 mpg this season. Unfortunately he wasn't able to do much else. And no one else rebounded. I really thought Ibeh would build on his defense (5 blocks) vs UConn and get hyped on defense at Tech and be more of a threat. It was not singularly one guys fault - just a completely different basketball team than they were 1 week ago. Shaka will figure out how to get them working together better.

Oh, I'm sorry, am I supposed to be celebrating 5-7 football seasons and basketball teams that are winless in conference, after they lose to what is consistently the worst team in the conference?

You're right, being a Longhorn now has been better than ever! :hookem2:

Regardless of what TTech usually is they had one loss before this game. The Horns were beginning to gel into a pretty damn good team, mainly building around Cam Ridley.
Oh yea, he broke his foot in practice right before the game.
Are you telling me you weren't enjoying the teams play before Ridley went down?
Or do you just sit and hope for bad news to whine and cry about.
They were thrown a curve with Ridley's injury.
They will get back on track.

I know that was a hard criticism of Ibeh. Most of his rebounds were in garbage time in the second half. He was blocked out pretty effectively in the the first half and seemed ineffectual to me. Just my opinion.

This is such a crazy thing to say H_H. You do know that ttu is 11-1 against decent competition this year, and that they will likely be a tourney team this year. Ttu's past means absolutely ZERO. Tubby Smith is an excellent coach, and their players are talented, experienced and drilled in his system. They will finish in the top half of the conference this year.

Smart is already starting to build a very good team. Recruits want to play for him.

Sorry that Ridley was our only legit post player on the squad and that he broke his foot, after getting in the best shape of his life.

Smart had finally gotten guards to feed the post and Ridley responded by playing better than he ever had.

As it stands now, Smart has a top ten recruiting class and he is far from done. Jarrett Allen is a real possibility, as well as other top players.

I think this is worth celebrating.

In fact the recruiting class is now #9 in the country.

They were only down 6 points with 2 minutes left in the second half. I wouldn't call any point in that game garbage time. But I get your point. His boards weren't pivotal or at crucial points. No one really stepped up with the exception of Taylor.

What stands out to me is how pedestrian most of the team was with the exception of our PG, and yet we were actually still in it with 2 to play. Thats talent. That's heart. This group is just playing out of their comfort zone.

I watched an absolutely badass game between OU & KU last night. That looked like an NCAA championship game. We'll be as good as either of those squads next year.

So the only way we'd be good next year is to have an upper class big man? Obviously it helps having Jr/Sr. post players and those guys make significant impacts to their teams, but I believe we can be a top five team with the personnel we'll have next year....IF Taylor stays and we end up keeping our #9 or better recruiting class.

I didn't have a chance to watch the game live and now kinda glad I didn't. It's just depressing - especially knowing that some of the pieces are there but Ridley leaves such an absolute gaping hole in the lineup! It reminds you that the other post guys are basically just role-players - you get pumped when they give you 15 minutes of activity, but you know they're not going to be productive long-term.

What's really troubling is that at Texas, bad shooting just seems contagious. It seems like every year if one guy's off, EVERYONE is off. The freshmen just have to grow up and fight through it, because if we don't have consistent help from someone other than Felix, this team could easily end up with only four or five wins in league play.

I don't know how we're going to compete with no legitimate 5 player, but that's the hand Shaka got dealt. He needs to go seal the deal with the kid from Austin, and this time next year maybe this will just be a bad memory.

Excited about the future but tired of being "excited about the future"... you know??

We need to add a post who can come in and play immediately. I would be shocked if Taylor comes back, BUT... it's not out of the realm of possibility because right now I don't think he has an NBA game. There's still no perimeter threat and he won't just be able to blow by guards at the next level. He might be a low enough draft projection that he feels like he can earn some money by coming back. Bad news is, if he basically is who he is now and this is his ceiling, he's likely going to head out and get whatever he can get out of his pro career.
