Horns vs TCU series

Pierce resorting to last year’s strategy of using his starters for 8-9 innings because he can’t trust his relievers.

Ballgame. Batters had to swing the bat due to accurate pitching.

Tonight I watched the Rangers and listened to the Horns. The Rangers beat the Yanks and the Horns get a team to go 3 up 3 down in the bottom of the 9th. Life is good again.

Walks are important. Home runs are more important. Walks equal a hit and they are free not earned.
I’d argue some walks are earned. Many a runner have advanced 2 or 3 bases on hits that are not homers. Not so much on walks.

But yes, we need to walk fewer and get more walks as they directly impact how long pitchers last in any given game in addition to more base runners generally results in more runs scored.

Im not sure thats the case tonite. Gordon goes over 100 pitches pretty regularly.
Outside of Baylor and OSU, this was the fewest combined walks/Ks that Gordon’s had in any start. But he went 2 more innings tonight than in those games. We’re better off when the opponent puts the ball in play.

What was the situation with the TCU CF and 2B getting chippy towards the end of the game. CF was talking sh*t to Gordon and staring him down - Gordon just walked off the field (like a pro). 2B was running his suck after he was standing in the base path on a close play at first and O’Dowd clipped him a bit.

Was there more to the story? missed the first 7 innings.

Very nice road win to start the series but these next two are just as critical, that sweep by OU is going to hang over the rest of the year barring another long win streak by the Horns.

Watched this one on replay on the +.

Gordon was Gordon, and he got the job done. Going deep into the game wasn't a problem for Geno last night, because he was very efficient in the early innings--often using less than 10 pitches to retire the side. That one 3 run homer can be excused by the wind. That was some wind! And our bats took full advantage of it.

Good job bats. These next two games, TCU has more shaky pitchers on the mound, so we should be able to put up some big points on the scoreboard. LBJ, Sthele, Hurley, Burke, or whomever we put up there has to avoid the big inning(s), and we should be fine.

Today, the wind will be around 7 mph from the North/Northwest, so it shouldn't be a homerun derby (with the 17-20 mph wind to left field seen last night). At Lupton, 7 mph wind from the North/Northwest would be light to moderate wind blowing towards just about straight away Centerfield. Kennedy knocked one way over the Centerfield fence last night.

Let's get the W today and take the Series, Horns!

Hoping for a sweep but 2 of 3 works. I want to hear the well known Mr Gary P Nunn from long ago sing his most famous song. Lupton Homesick Blues.

Go Horns!
