Horns vs Purdue 7:30pm TNT

How many f-ing times are they going to cut away to Iveys mom in a random hotel meeting room? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a broadcast that just live streamed a players relatives on Zoom a dozen times.

Time to start thinking about all the potential acquisitions Beard can snag. Not the best year ever, but a welcome change from the Shaka years.

Within reach until the last minute against this year’s Purdue team. Nothing for our players to be ashamed of. Ivey caught fire the last couple of minutes. Tough opponent.

:bevo:

Good first season from beard. Not amazing or exceeding expectations, but good. That is more than we have said about most of our other coaching hires recently.

Purdue had height, athleticism, NBA talent, depth and coaching. I won't be surprised to see them in the final four.

Horns played their hearts out to the last. Proud of this team.

Timmy Allen had an off night. That happens to everyone. If he has a normal night, just scores 12, things could have been different. Give the Purdue defense credit. Their length and height were touch matchups for our bigs.

Horns have a lot to build on for the future.

Congrats on a fine season. This team showed great heart.

If anything, Purdue didn’t go down low to Williams on O enough. That’s about a 75% chance of getting 2 points when Williams gets the ball in (or just outside of) the paint. I think he watches old Akeem tapes in his free time for O moves.

Agree. The last few seasons, we've been a "one and done" tournament team. This year the Horns got a first round win and not a bad showing in the 2nd, considering it's been awhile since we even played in the second round.

Purdue was ranked number one earlier this year for a reason. That is a good team and while last night was a tough loss it is nothing to be ashamed of, Texas showed up and played them to the wire. Beating Va Tech meant this was a successful run no matter what happened and while it would have been great to get to the second weekend that will come with this coach of that I have little doubt.

I honestly don't believe the calls were lopsided. Purdue knew they could get down low with 3 of their guys and force us to get physical underneath. They went right at Allen, knowing it would limit him on the other end as well. It was genius, but it still barely got them the win. That's how good we really are. People who say "they had x FTA and we had y FTA" don't connect the narrative of the game to it. If both teams were playing the same way and the final result was the same, we'd have more to argue about with refs.

Even if we had Mitchell, we don't play that style on offense that draws a bunch of fouls. If we had 1 more big who could handle that kind of pressure, we'd probably be one of the best teams in the nation. It's going to be a very telling offseason for Beard if we can't nab someone less injured than Disu to be that guy for 2022-23.

We should have driven to the basket more to create more fouls on their bigs.
However, if we don't allow them to go on a 20-0 run we more than likely win.

Clanked a ton of threes at the end. Next level teams hit those. Purdue sure did.
Again, you need to check the box score LC.
We cranked 18 3's and made 10.
Purdue jacked 17 and made 6.

Purdue won the game at the FT line and because we had a severe height disadvantage which caused the huge FT difference. Kinda hard to stop a 7'4" with a 6'8".

Many times it appeared like a small guard was on the Purdue bigs. That small guard was a 6'6" forward.

Yeah, just imagine if Jericho Sims had stuck around one more year.

Purdue can afford to make less threes than us, they have a strong paint presence, we don’t. If we didn’t clank threes, we would have won. Purdue hit threes and paint shots down the stretch. They’re players made plays. We didn’t.
