horns vs ksu

Any road win in Big XII is huge and so while this wasnt prettiest, I am sure we all will take it. 3 games left and still a real chance to get to 20 wins and a likely 5 or 6 seed. :bevo:

3 tough games coming up - got to win 2 of these to get to a 20 win regular season:

ou @ home on Sat. looms:hookem:
KU @ home
Okie Lite @ Stoolwater

They had tons of opportunities to exploit Texas down low in the second half and kept chucking jumpers. I didn't understand

They weren't patient with it, which is probably the sign of a team that's not very confident on offense. When we were down to Lammart at the 5, they went right in on him and Johnson tried to post him up. He stood his ground, played good defense, and they ended up kicking it back out. They never really tried to press the issue there after that.

^^This. I was really impressed that somehow he did indeed hold his ground, didn't try to do too much, but stayed solid and focused. Played well enough to get us to the end of the game with a W. As did Cleare.

Although Lammert and Cleare certainly don't have the physical gifts on defense that Ibeh has, they seem to play within themselves and stay focused when it counts. Prince did that for a stretch earlier this season. If he gets that back we can do something in the B12 tourney, and into March. If he cannot, then we are very limited in how we approach teams with a formidable in the paint presence.

That's a weird stat to see because I really thought our offense stunk for most of this game. But sometimes good defense makes offenses look bad.

We actually shot pretty well 47% FG, 50% 3PT, and 85% FT. That and the large number of trips to the line probably contributed to the high pts/possession.

The weird stats to me and why Texas won was they had a higher FG percentage than KSU.

This despite just letting KSU go ahead and make several uncontested layups, due to missed defensive switches and then because of foul trouble on our big men.

The other is that Texas won without Ibeh having any rebounds in the game, he only played 8 minutes total.

The key stat was 9-18 on the treys, for Texas, compared to 3-14 on the three ball for KSU. This included the last shot of the game, that was the decider, off the front of the rim.

I thought that points per possession was a weird stat too, especially since there weren't a lot of fast breaks in the game. But when you think about it:

Texas quietly shot very well beyond the arc. They didn't give the ball away a lot, as they only turned it over 6 times. And like I said last night, absolute money from the freethrow line when they needed it the most (barring the last trip to the line by Felix).

Gotta hand it to Kansas State, they may have looked scrambled, but they sure didn't turn the ball over a lot. Only 5 times total. Then again, hard to turn it over when the team you're playing gets whistled every time they let a drop of sweat hit the floor, which was the case for Texas last night.

But when they clipped Taylor in the back of the leg, ball was off Taylor and it wasn't even close. So it's either a foul on them, or their ball. What do the refs do? They give us the ball, but no foul called.

That's one of my biggest ref pet peeves, because it's not usually just "missing" a call, which is inevitable at times. It's a ref seeing exactly what happened, being unable to make a decision, and then inventing a half-measure compromise call that he knows full well is not what happened.
