Horns v Marquette

That was a similar formula to what worked for us when Shaka was here. Jack up 30 threes and hope a bunch of them fall. Marquette looks like a good team and we're kind of mid.

We need Disu back. He and Shedrick will need to develop some team chemistry among the big-men before the tournaments start.

Good crowd, horns can’t defended the three and are having a hard time with pressure.

Glenda- I must have been right by you. Our seats were in row 20. I did have an obnoxious Marquette kid trying to pick a fight with me all night. My 53 yo self had just about had enough when my friend who is Marquette grad step in and try and get the kid to shut up. Instead the kid started jaw jacking with my friend.

On the game side, man we looked lost. Don't get me wrong, Marquette couldn't miss tonight and may have played good enough to beat anyone. But I think it's the first time I've seen a Terry coached team so lost and unmotivated. I hope tonight was a one-off or it's going to be a tough road in the B12.

I was in row 22! Surprised I lucked into the section with the most longhorn fans, I just got tickets from a friend of a friend who goes to Marquette. I was kind of shocked how chippy the Marquette fans were, it’s not some big rivalry and they were both ranked higher and picked to win by 8. Some serious jealousy of the Texas brand I guess? I was just ready to say “Well, I’m a Badger fan too, and Saturday went pretty well for us ”, if anyone got on me.

Lost is a great way to put it, they just didn’t seem to know where to go on defense, kept getting lost on screens, and didn’t rebound well. I’d think it was the big opposing crowd and or travel jitters, but they had that MSG trip. Maybe it’s finals week.

I know a lot of our fanbase is still sore that Shaka dumped us for Marquette. But we have to grow up and accept it. After all, he’s a Milwaukee guy.

And we’re in good hands now. Terry will put us on top.
Thats got to be the funniest post this year!!

Is Rodney just playing with schemes or what? Like not trying to win just figuring stuff out?
This stuff cracks me up. No descent coach ever tries not to win. The players want to win, the coach wants to win or neither would be doing what they are doing. I am not a fan of rt but thats who we have. Not sure cdc got this one right but maybe it was right for the time. Shaka was never right for Texas but he got paid.

Seen this before from Shaka's teams even here. When they go off from 3 they can run a team out of the building. Doesn't happen all that often, but it does happen. Marquette is a bad matchup for Texas. The game did highlight Texas defensive weaknesses namely small guards that other teams can take advantage of. We really need Mitchell to find his mid-range game on the offensive end ala Timmy Allen. Mitchell doesn't seem to have atrocious mechanics, but he does tend to fall away from the shot. Texas is not a good rebounding team.

You live by the 3, you die by the 3. Shaka knows that. And I don’t see an able counter strategy for his personal.

Holy crap, Marquette hit 10 of 15 threes after staring 2 for 10. They’ll win the national championship if they can shoot like this.

I wanted to say something like "geez, if only Shaka had coached like this when he was in Austin", but truth is the modern game is largely about if your 3s fall or not. If they do, you look like a genius. If not, you look like a fool.

Kenpom and Parsed Sports both have us at #36, so hopefully still dancing. Parsed sports live bracket has us at a 10 seed and losing to Michigan St in the first round. Plenty of season left.

I can 100% see the scenario where we lose 10+ games and get a double digit seed. But, if our rotation is 100% healthy by March, and RT can get them peaking by then, we only have to win 6 games.

Is this a 20 win team? I feel like it should definitely be attainable.

It'll be close but probably only because we'll have 3 more cakewalk wins between now and the conference slate. Going 10-3 into the XII means a 10-8 record the rest of the way out, which I think is attainable without further injuries. I still think we can make the NCAA tournament with 18-19 wins... maybe as one of the #11 play-in seeds.

I feel like you're discounting the impact Disu can provide when healthy. I acknowledge he may not ever be completely healthy though.

If Disu doesn't come back at least at the first of 2024, I am not certain he will have much of an impact. He hasn't played in a while. I don't know if he is practicing at all. If he comes back, I think is will take some time to get into game shape both physically and mentally to get close to where he was at the end of last year. His contribution is anything, but a given. Conference play could be brutal. Shedrick is not 100% and you can still see the effect when he gets hit or takes a hard fall. As of right now, Texas weaknesses have not improved that I can tell. They are not a good rebounding team. Defensively, their switching and pick and roll/pop defense has been spotty. The guards, other than Hunter when he is dialed in, are not great on the ball defenders and for the most part opposing guards can just shoot over them at when they want. Mitchell is a very good help defender and shot blocker, but he also is not a great on the ball defender. Against the top half of the conference, I think they will need to take 20-30 three's a game and hit close to 45%. The Horns shot well under that against Marquette and UConn. I am not a fan of the weak schedule. Bad habits can develop against woefully inferior competition because it has no consequence.

I think that (20 wins) is the water mark for this team. I think 20 regular season wins is about tops. Then the B12 tourney may give them another win. Or not. It depends on Disu and Shedrick's health. If they are 100% then we will do well. If not then we don't do well.

Disu has been playing in today's LSU game.
