Horns v Heels

I hope bill walton never announces another Texas game. Worse than Dickie V, Magic Johnson, and Kareem all rolled into one.
He’s awful. But he’s clearly good luck for us. Also, look at it this way—Bill Walton gives the audience a lot of random stuff haphazardly thrown together. Sounds like a certain offense I know of... But we win—that’s the bottom line. Go Horns!

Shaka needs a contract extension! (JUST KIDDING!)

Contract extensions are the death knell of college athletic departments!

I saw him play in person as a healthy 3rd year player in 1976-77 (going against Rockets rookie Moses Malone). He was really something. Amazingly smart player, great court vision, great passer, great shot blocker. He played the same way he encourages collage players to play now. For example our lack of passing, as in when Coleman would take it up court and shoot without attempting a single pass. He hates that style of play. I just wanted to make the point he was a special player himself (just couldn't get past the injuries) who played exactly the way he thinks they should still play today. He walked the walk (when he could walk)

I am trying really hard not to get too excited because we have been here before with Shaka but that's three quality wins in three days and if they beat Villanova on Sunday that would be four straight quality wins and would suggest the late season run last year was the start of something and not just a random fluke, A long season ahead but you cannot help but love how it has started.:hookem:

The refs kept the game close. Terrible officiating, really for the entire tourney. A lot of those fouls won’t keep getting called. Powder puff officiating. That said, I don’t think the fouls are representative of team discipline. Even Walton noticed it, and he spent 10% of the time talking about the game. The offensive fouls on screens were total BS.

Regardless, we won despite bad games from Jones and Brock. Well-balanced team. If you’re not excited about this team then you don’t know basketball.

Resume looking good.

While I agree with almost all of your post, and I AM excited about the team, I do think the propensity to foul almost cost us the game. Putting NC in the double bonus with almost 10 minutes to go was not good.
Also, we had to bench some guys too much to avoid them fouling out.

This is a very talented bunch. If Shaka can get them a bit more disciplined, while not stifling their athleticism, they will be a top 10 team, imo.

Who would have thought Texas would have racked up early wins against Indiana and North Carolina given their blue blood status and obsession with basketball? Pretty crazy.

Texas owns North Carolina winning 8 of the last 9 matchups. Only Duke and NC State have similar runs against NC. Kinda odd a mediocre basketball school can own a blue blood like this.

I like the overall performance of the team, but the offense is still terrible. We are relying on stout defense which is creating a lot of points and will win a lot of games, but have a defensive let down and this team will get crushed.

Based off returning talent, this year was the year we expected both Shaka and Tom to do big things. So far Shaka has been able to deliver what Tom could not. I am pessimistically excited.

Starting Sunday we will see what this team can do because we are entering very difficult stretch.

I think our 3 pt shooting % is something to keep an eye on. Like you said, a defensive lapse and it's a 20 point loss. But maybe they'll be that aggressive all year. What I can never understand is why a coach can't seem to "get" that his team can't hit the long ball and adjust the offense. A 7' center would help! Oh... right...

I agree with everything you said. I too can't figure out why he refuses to adjust the offense to match their strengths. If he would do that I'm convinced this team has the talent to dominate almost any team they play and go a long way in the dance. As it is I think there will be a lot of last second shots to win or lose and a few beat downs.

Shades of Corey Joseph 10 years ago with that shot.

On the other hand, the fact that our final play of the game is 4 guys standing around while one guy takes a midrange shot falling away, doesn't give me a lot of confidence for the future.

He didn't just make that midrange shot 'falling away.' As Bill Walton would put it, he scored while he "f-f-faded away."

Naysayers: don't try to dig what we all say.

He made a grown *** man shot. I’m good with it (of course, he made) but Shaka’s previous teams have been no screen-settin, no movement, one on one plays.......but things look different this year. Like I said previously, I’m hopeful. Darn right excited actually :hookem:

I am not sure waht

Curious, how do you think they should play? Team is hitting 34% of its 3s, run when its available, does not really have a offensive force on the post, drives the lane quite a bit. My only gripe is that on rare occasions this year, the team forgets the offensive and does not pass. But I personally was very impressed with both the offensive and defensive strategies in this tourney. Just hope the team keeps improving. If you are talking about previous years, I agree. But this year, I like the way the team looks.

I dont know, maybe utilize the 5 star center a little more. The one who sat the bench and just entered the portal. He still has talent to run a balanced offense but he wont.

Like I said earlier if we maintain that suffocating defense we'll be fine in most games, but if that let's down I dont expect the offense to be capable of picking up the slack.

Baker was slow afoot. Trouble defending. Seemed to have little success creating his own shot.
Those problems don't fit too well in SS's scheme. Had Will stayed he may have improved his inside play, but he had a hill to climb. Wish him the very best wherever he lands.
