Horns at South Carolina

SC knew exactly what to do and that was be physical.

Kaluma was never a "banger" until this year, and he's not very good at it.

Shedrick gets muscled around like no other.

Mark has never recovered from whatever ailed him in the offseason and he's just a shell of himself from the past few seasons.

Really disappointed that Larry hasn't become the PG he was at ISU, but I guess that's the difference between midmajors and the SEC.

Johnson is obviously one-and-done, and it'll be open season on the HC spot. That said, I just don't think anyone would want this gig after what we did to Barnes and Smart.
Kaluma is not a banger but has to help on the boards.

Shedrick is big and a good help defender and shot blocker.

Larry is in a totally different system. The system he came from was a motion offense where they moved, cut, and screened. It also had great spacing, which looks like Larry thrived in. It was easily to get assist in that system. If we had a good offense like that, it wouldn't matter if it was midmajor or the SEC. Texas offensive is not set up that way. Kent looks like he thrived in that system as well.

Johnson will be one and done.

Was this the straw that broke the camel's back? We just lost to 0-13 South Carolina by 20 in a game we desperately needed.

Dude! Get a grip!!!

We're AWFUL!

I love EVERYTHING University of Texas BUT if you can't see that we're ( Texas MBB) is the WORST CULTURE IN Texas athletics, you got problems!!!
Hoff were you drunk when you posted this? My words weren’t a defense of Terry and our ****** culture in any way. Anyone who has followed me on here can see when I threw in the towel on Terry weeks ago. I’ll send you that post so you can be more informed.

My comments were simply toward watching Ole Miss play Vandy yesterday. It was an unenthusiastic effort and with Ole Miss remaining schedule they likely won’t enter the SEC tournament higher than an 8 seed. I’m not sure that is the season what any Ole Miss has hoped for. They drop out of top 25 tomorrow.

Because the two programs are going in the exact opposite directions. Last year we had a final 4 caliber team, but this year we are headed towards the conference cellar. Ole Miss has been historically a sub .500 team and in year two they are ranked. Yeah, they will have some hiccups along the way, but they are headed up. Who can't see that?

Ole Miss is 4-6 in their last 10, but two of those 4 are against us and that Kentucky team we were so proud to beat.

I'm guessing we go 2-2 in our last four leaving us at 18-13 overall and 7-11 in league play in the bottom quarter of the conference. Yay team! That's the Texas standard.
I am not defending Terry and the **** show I watched last night in Columbia in any way. My comment was simply that I thought Ole Miss was unimpressive yesterday against Vandy. Beard finished 10th his first season in SEC. And they will be underdogs in 3 of their last 4 this year. If they play to form and lose 4 of their last 5 going into the tourney- that's not very good. And a 20-11 (9-9) record will probably be 9th or 10th in conference again. Ole Miss is 2-6 against ranked teams this year. We are 3-7 vs ranked teams. I don't think the two programs are that far apart. They both are not going to meet exepectations this year.

And whatever you meant, it didn't merit the response from a guy who, I thought, we all got along with and with each other at Tolbert's a few years ago.

:idk:

Ahhh Hoff's fine. He's just firing from the hip. We will all have a drink again at Tolbert's and celebrate the new basketball coach in the future.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..................

something's wrong here

must be that S&C coach

if our big men were strong enough, it would be a different story

Well, there's the $$$; then there's the visibility; then there's the $$$; not the pressure of the football or baseball coach; recruiting advantages; the $$$; limited expectations; and lastly the MONEY
Money whipping someone doesn't change that we told the current coaches of #5 and #16 to kick rocks. College basketball coaches want to coach. If there's no sense of job security, the perks of living in Austin and nabbing good players from the portal are vastly outweighed by better fans, better culture, and better basketball elsewhere. This isn't the Bob Weitlich era any longer, and we need to be proactive in creating that environment.

I felt like we were on our way towards that goal (culture), but you also can't keep a HC who bites his crazy girlfriend. Terry was a nice layer of Flex Seal over that leaky sieve, but he also can't coach at a high level.

I trust CdC but we have an uphill battle for basketball unless we're willing to:
1. Throw $15MM+/year (and quadruple that for buyout) at McCasland or Hurley or someone like that.
2. Throw $10MM+/year at a known cheater who also happens to be a great basketball coach, like Sampson or Pearl.

11,

Very valid points, but in reality there is a ceiling on what we should pay a basketball coach. He doesn't put 100,000 butts in seats at $150-200 per seat, but her does have more games. I have no input, but if I did, my mind would be "on hold" for anything north of $3 million. Unrealistic? Perhaps, but I want it to be a financial decision, but emotional.

Not saying I disagree with the logic but if $3M is the ceiling then that’s what we got with RT a $3M middle of the road guy. As of last year there were 11 HCs in the SEC making more than Terry.

Well, I'd say the reason that we're cool with football bringing in $30MM in ticket sales per season is so that we can redistribute that to other sports.

I mentioned on the other Royal Ivey thread that former players are discussing what it would take to get a name guy. Based on what my buddy told me, the salary alone would need to be higher than the top 7 college basketball coaches. I'm fine with that if we're getting results. I'm not fine with "top 40" money and getting "top 90" results.
