High School State Championship Manvel vs Highland Park

Damn Jones can ball. There's going to be a lot of college defenses that get embarrassed by this guy. It blows mind mind he's not in the top 247 sports. He should be in the top 10 based on what I saw last night, I don't care how tall he is. The same schools that passed on Drew Breeze are going to regret passing on Jones.

Watched the fourth quarter last night after the Texas basketball game ended, what a great game, really felt for Manvel kids, to come up one yard short. Wow.

Assuming you went to Brazoswood.

Yes sir - Class of 1979.

What ever happened to that LB on your 74 team. I know he went to Houston. I told Neil Caldwell that he needed to intervene and get him somewhere that could develop his talent and promote him.

David Hodge. He was a household name in those days and it was a bit of a surprise he went to UH, although they were up-and-coming back then. I was only 13 in 1974, but my recollection is he did OK but not great at UH and that was the end of it.

FWIW, I was at the playoff game in the Dome when he beat PNG 14-0 by returning two INTs for the games' only scores.

I was there, too. I was in junior high then, but my older sister was in the band, so we went to all the games in those days. I was at Memorial Stadium when we beat the Mesquite Skeeters for B'woods one and only state title. We stayed at the Villa Capri.

Friendswood isn't on 288. It's way to the east, between TX-35 and I-45. Not sure how the folks in Friendswood could have had much effect on the development along 288. I've had people tell me that one of the main hindrances to development has been the lack of drinking water. Water rights in the Brazos River are pretty much all allocated and aquifers south of Houston tend to be brackish.

I remember getting drive through at a fast food place in Angleton at least 10 years ago and my Dr. Pepper tasted like dirt. :lmao:

Maybe the most exciting HS game I ever saw. Also one of the most lopsided in terms of talent differential, Manvil has a LOT of talent. Major props to Randy Allen and staff, even tho they were torched badly deep, they found a way to win. The HP defense couldn't get penetration nor a rush from the edge, couldn't cover anybody, and were getting punished by ball carriers.

SJS, was unbelievable. Simply unbelievable. Same can be said of a lot of kids from both sides but jones was magic out there

Lack of on field sportsmanship displayed by some Manvil guys I thought, esp #5.... Looked it up, he's going to aggy. He belongs in that sewer in colleyville...The game ends with him being denied the goal line by the same HP player he *thought* he knocked out earlier in the game (#30 for hp was dinged by the guy he tackled, not the block by Manvil #5). #5 was slapping hands with a few of his teammates while #30 was layed out half conscious... Sometimes the game finds ways to humble jackasses...

Was it the Red Top Burger on Velasco, by any chance? I think I've eaten there once the whole time I've lived here (probably back in the early 1990s)

BTW, there are 2 decent eateries in town: the first is Giovanni's on TX-35. It's only open in the evening, Tuesday-Saturday. Way better than Olive Garden or any of the other chain Italian restaurants. (I would rank it up there with the Venetian Hot Plate in Port Aransas.) And better than Mario's in Galveston, IMHO. The other go-to place for me is La Casona. Always a crowd there.

If you saw following the game, Jerry Jones went over to all of the Manvel players and you could hear what he was saying to them,
very heartfelt and is super class act by Jerry.

I think it was a Jack in the Box or McDonald's. A national chain for sure. I tried drinking it but just couldnt.

Lots of the water in that area has oil particles or gas in it. Get over around New Gulf and Boling, you can smell the water before it comes out of the kitchen.
