Hey Dems- give me some help here

What do I have to do to vote in a Democratic primary- anything?

I'm not going to vote for McCain- and I am registered as a voter- does that entitle me to vote for Obama? If so- do I have to vote anywhere in particular- or do I just go to wherever there is a poling precinct? I've never voted in a primary before, so any help is appreciated. Also, what do I have to bring to vote? I'm not sure if I have my voter registration card- anyone know where to check to get it or see where I have to go vote (I've not voted in my new house yet).

Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.

I believe that date has come and gone. You DO however have plenty of time to make sure your ducks are in order the general election though.

FYI, I believe the deadline for the TX primary was February 1st.

If you are in Texas, you can vote in either primary, it is open, just be registered to vote. we have 3 great selections to choose from, 3 global socialists.

Nope. Just go to the right polling place. In many precincts the parties have different polling locations in the primaries.

No, you just had to be registered as a voter by Feb. 4. You didn't have to specially register to vote in any particular party's primary.

Texas has an officially closed primary, but it's in real time. Meaning: you can vote in the primary of one party so long as you have not already voted in the primary of another during that cycle. There's no registration or anything required.

So you can vote in the Democratic primary this cycle for Obama, and the only thing it will cot you is your chance to vote for McCain. If you want to go back to voting in GOP primaries the next time, you can. And we'd love to have you.

BE WARNED, however: should you seek future office as a Republican, someone could locate a record of you voting in this "closed" Democratic primary, thus making you officially a Democrat for this one day, and therefore a traitor on a level with Benedict Arnold, evil on par with Osama Bin Laden, Barney Frank, and the Husband of Terry Schiavo.

Exactly. You can vote in either primary, but your voting record is public and will show you voted in the D primary. It won't show who you voted for, just that you participated. And you'll probably start getting Democratic mail. ;-)

Thanks for the heads up BC- I think it'd be ok as I just said that I wasn't gong to vote for no democrat calling themselves a republican. If it's good enough for Rush and Glen Beck and all those guys I should be ok.

How do I find out where my precinct is for the general, and is this the same precinct I have to vote in the primary in?

Of course, I never really understood the desire to cross party lines to vote on a single candidate in lieu of an opportunity to help choose the person I felt was best qualified in all races. If one's tendencies are to vote for one party, is it really more important to vote in the other party's presidential primary than it is to vote in your party's primary for all candidates for county, state and national office and participate in the caucuses?

I understand the desire if you are a truly independent voter and don't really have a strong reason to vote in either party's primary, but if you are generally aligned one way or the other, then I just don't get the cross-over rationale.

I cordially invite any and all Texas Republicans to come out to vote and caucus for Obama in the Democratic primary March 4. It may be the only chance you guys will ever get to vote against Hillary Clinton.

Wash-

I totally disagree with Obama on almost everything, but conversly would be ok I think with an Obama presidency. this isn't any kind of game playing for me anyway, having to do with electablity. It is voting against Hil b/c she is bad for the country imo.
