If he's too stupid to discern just how offensive his postion on this issue is, he's too stupid to be nominated for even the GOP position as standard bearer:
Herman Cain says he wasn't joking after all
harriman, tn. (cbs atlanta) -
georgia businessman and gop presidential candidate herman cain acknowledged monday that his idea to build an electrified border fence, wasn't a joke after all.
speaking saturday in harriman, tennessee, cain told voters he had a plan for securing america's southern border. the crowd cheered and applauded as he discussed building an electrified fence.
"it's going to be 20 feet high, it's going to have barbed wire on the top. it's going to be electrocuted, electrified. and there's going to be a sign on the other side that says, 'it will kill you,'" cain said.
cain went on to say that he wasn't being insensitive, because "it's insensitive for them to be killing our citizens, killing our border agents. that's what's insensitive and this mess has to stop."
sunday cain explained that he was only joking when he made the comments. he said that building an electrified fence is not a serious plan for protecting the border.
monday, cain continued to back away from the comments, telling CNN's John King, "Yeah, it was a joke, and yeah, I haven't learned how to be politically correct yet."
But later Monday Cain met with the Sheriff of Maricopa County in Arizona, Joe Arpaio, who has made a national reputation for cracking down on illegal immigrants.
After the meeting one reporter challenged his claims that he was only joking about the electrified fence, and Cain said, "you're right."
Cain also acknowledged that he still believes in the need for a border fence, and "it might be electrified."
