Herman Cain: God Told me To Run

If that is truly the case with Cain, then I think that could lead to disaster because I don't believe he is actually hearing from the Almighty. If not the Almighty, All-loving God, then whence the voice?

Have you ever heard a black preacher speak? I have, numerous times, they speak in this way often, many other evangelical types do as well. it is quite common. Cain was speaking to a religious publication. I'm sure he was playing to his audience a bit. it doesnt mean he actually heard God speak. You are smarter than this, you have to be.

if you weren't converned about obama calling to be an instrument of God and saying he wants to create a Kingdom right here on earth ( Hint he asn't referrring to saudi araba)
but you think Herman Cain saying he felt in his heart that God was telling him He something from him, that maybe herman didn't want to so. if you think that is troubling
and not someone saying they can create a Kingdom here on earth

we will just agree to disagree.
btw do you consider yourself a member of a faith of any sort?

I'll go ahead and fulfill your fantasy, Horn6721. Of course, Obama wants to establish a monarchy on Earth with himself as King justified by divine right. You've nailed us on this one, buddy! I can't say he actually speaks to God even if Obama claims to based on your superior abilities of interpretation because we know that all he does is lie. His lies are just more articulate when he has a teleprompter, but the man has lied about his birthplace, religion, terrorist inclinations and has hidden his college transcripts so we know he can't be connected to God.

Hmmmmm. Who does that leave? Hmmmm, who could it be?

If only the poor dumb world would listen to you!!!!

Mr Federal Reserve will need all the help he can get to achieve the goal of the ruling class for Cain to preside over the world.

dio, you should probably take a theology class. prayer is different for many people and in many cases is a personal matter. prayer isnt designed to ask God for something.

I think you don’t know what the **** you’re talking about, but you think it’s a good thing to pretend that you do.

why dont you complete the picture and put on a white sheet and burn a few crosses.

Dionysus - I'll try to answer from my - only my - perspective. I am a Christian, but I get really irritated when people say that God answers prayers, or at least in the way most people believe. My sister died of cancer 2 months after graduating from UT (and was in chemo her last year.) There were thousands of prayers that she get well. However, I have come to believe that God only gives you the strength to get through whatever is thrown in your path. I could pray that my sister be cured, and I would mean that she would survive here on earth, but if you believe in an afterlife then she was cured, in heaven.

So I guess to answer your questions, I don't believe in praying for a specifc outcome. As Anne Lamont, a writer, said, most prayers are "please, please, please" and "help me, help me, help me." I believe God answers the "hekp me" prayers but not always like we would want them answered.

It's late and I am tired, but I hope this makes sense. There are lots of Christians that believe in specific prayers - for healing, for outcomes, etc. - just not me.

From the Luther catechism, prayer is a "heart-to-heart talk with God".

You can ask for things (so it is rather meaningles to say that prayer isn't "designed" to ask for things; it certainly can be for that purpose); you can spill your guts; you can do anything.

AustinBat, thanks for your response.

The questions I posed above about prayer are not put forward to provoke, although I suspect many believers will take it that way because the questions make them uncomfortable. I have posted similar questions on here before and nobody wants to address them in any depth, which is revealing.

So when people post about prayer and what it is, or claims about how it works, or ‘messages’ they attribute to God, well this is very interesting stuff to me and so I would like to know more about these claims. But the believers get strangely quiet when it comes to the details.

I'd have to say this is the most worthless thread on HornFans in a long time. Bravo people. It was like watching the second half of an Aggie game.

If anybody finds fault with Dio's "tone" (in above post listing the quesitons) then they are looking for excuses to avoid responding.

I don't see anything wrong with the "tone".

I am no expert but I would think most religions have some sort of device to commune with whatever ultimate being of that religion.
Not sure why this is a cause of concern but i would also think that anyone for whom this is a concern would not have been voting for Cain on any Pub.

Apparently, Obama speaks to God too. This will really upset the left. We will probably see a few threads about it.....

"If Congress tells you they don't have time, they got time to do it. We've been in the House of Representatives, what have you guys been debating? John, you've been debating a commemorative coin for baseball? You have legislation reaffirming that In God We Trust is our motto. That's not putting people back to work. I trust in God, but God wants to see us help ourselves by putting people back to work," Obama said.

Religion is difficult to follow. God is all knowing and all powerful. God is merciful. Yet God allows children to be tortured, starved and murdered by the many thousands on a daily basis. He allows untold suffering. No prayer requests seem to be reversing God's will in this regard. Or perhaps God is simply a very evil supernatural being. Baffling.
