Here is what Bohls and Golden said today...

Yes Seattle o forsee some awesome conversations in the future. And I like to think that I'm the type of person who respects everyones opinion no matter how much they differ from my own. And as far as coaches recruiting the players thus making them responsible for their play is absolutely true. However I put GG in a select category when I say that because her first two years she was only able to recruit the best players that were available to her not nationally. So until she has her own full roster it'll be hard to judge. And it may appease some people to hear her claim responsibility for losses and turnovers etc. It would not do that for me, because I know that no one really believes that anyway. And a's far as playing ou after the uconn loss I've learned in my limited HC experience that I would much rather play a team after a win rather than a blowout because they all have a chip on their shoulder and playing with something to prove. I'm encouraged more than usual for the upcoming season because they players that are commimg are natural winners and competitors. We have not had that. I read somewhere that between Cassie, Brady, nneka and major they only had 13 combined losses in 4 years of hs Bball. So it'll be interesting to get a group that doesn't really know what it's like to lose. And they EXPECT to win rather than hope to

I truly don't believe in excuses, but the facts are facts. Yes she's had four years, but only 3 recruiting classes. 2 if you don't even count the first one because she didn't really have a staff in place and she didn't get to travel due to her Olympic responsibilities. And the fact that Baylor is a private institution only helps their recruiting because what parents wouldn't push their kids to kid a top notch education while because able to compete for championships? Next year anything less than 23 wins and a top 3 conference finish would be a disappointment in my eyes and I would be at the front of the line right behind Seattle calling for some changes. Believe it or not she's right where she needs to be with the program. IMO

utfanforlife,
I'm so glad you are posting now - and I hope you keep it up!!! I truly value your insights into things BB and recruiting related. Your perspective as a coach is invaluable to us fans. I so appreciate your taking the time to help us understand the things happening in our program and other programs!

THANK YOU!

Rexy I really appreciate that. I just love the game, and love to discuss it all the time. Especially during the off season when I don't see fellow coaches very often. I'm hoping to have add more coaches to this board as well because I often speak on how educated MOST of the posters are.

And I don't believe that just because it's costs a lot makes it good. As much as it pains me to admit it, baylors education is slightly better than ours.

Basketball players start practicing layups in middle school, if not before. If they didn’t have the ability to make them consistently they would have trouble playing through high school. It is not the job of the D1 coach to teach them how to make a layup. Or, if it is there is a bigger problem. The same is true of most fundamentals.

You could argue that if the players do not play to their potential it is the fault of the coach. Ultimately it is the job of the coach to find a way to get the best possible performance out of their team. In theory there is no problem with that. But, it is a tough call to me. Sometimes you can do everything right and still not get the results you are looking for. Sometimes good parents have bad kids, sometimes good kids make bad decisions. (There I go with analogies again and someone will bust me for it.)

I have said before that I thought consistency was an issue this past season, and that it was not unexpected with a team that was half freshmen. I just don’t see it as black and white either way. But, I think it should improve starting next season or the specific reason doesn’t really matter.

In the moviedocumentary The Heart of the Game (about a Seattle HS team that included Lindsey Wilson, who we remember from ISU) the coach has a quote that I loved….”One of the things really that makes coaching fun is when you tell teenagers "Go do 'ABC'", and they'll look at you and say "Yes, we're going to go do 'ABC'", and they're excited about "ABC", and five seconds later you watch them do "XYZ", and sometimes I'll ask them "Why did you do 'XYZ'?" and they never have an answer. They always look at you like, "Why would you ask a question like that?"

Well the fact that you won't acknowledge that as a legitimate reason tells me that your opinion is a bit bias. And nothing I or anyone say will change that. But it is in fact a valid point because the Olympics are at least a 3-4 year commitment. So she accepted and began that journey at duke when she had no thoughts of rebuilding Texas or any other program for that matter.

And realistic or not, the perception is that a Baylor degree is more prestigious than one from Texas. It's just that simple.

And with the losses against the top teams in the country, your just looking at the numbers without putting them in any type of context. No coach comes into a power conference and takes over a struggling program and has immediate success. Or not one that pops into my head at the moment. It takes time. Especially when the system your implementing is so much different than that of the one you inherited.

Texas should be blamed here. If a moonlighting policy is in effect, this expectation should have been made clear in the offer.

I'm absolutely sure that is was made clear in the offer. Cp amd GG knew what the internal time table was for her to turn the program around. However they can't come out and tell fans that it's going to take 3-4 years for us to be relevant again. Wouldnt be good for recruiting or attendance

If by moonlighting, one is talking about working as a coach for the USA teams, both parties were aware of it at the time Coach G was hired. How that would impact the Texas program would have been discussed and both parties agreed to whether or not Coach G would carry out her PRIOR committment when hired. Same as it true with any job offer where the employee has a prior committment and informs the would be employer of it and their desire/decision to keep it. The employer decides if that is a deal breaker or not.In this case, it not only was not, it was probably looked on as a positive for the Texas program. Of course, that last phrase in the last sentence is my opinion since I have no way of knowing what the discussions actually covered.
