Help settle 'TitleTown' argument w/ a Vol

Stat......

In 8 decades (1st title in 1925) OSU has obtained 34 Team NCAA Wrestling titles. By comparison, UA has won 42 Team NCAA titles since 1984.

OSU has 32 Conference titles. UA has 82 conference titles in track (27 consecutive) and 34 consecutive conference titles in Cross Country.

The above, combined with 5 Triple Crowns, 111 NCAA single event championships, 20 Conference Triple Crowns, and 645 All-American honors IMHO trumps anything OSU has taken 80 years to accomplish.

Wrestling and Track are apples and oranges but if we are talking strictly "Titles", there is no comparison.

I really doubt many people here are interested in total championships other than summer time conversation. How many here would trade 40 natl titles in rugby, water polo lacrosse, ect...for Vince Young crossing that goal line at the end. The smaller sports show the emphasis schools place on them. How likely is it that Colorado will become a thorn for Tex or LSU (others) in baseball. In many of the lesser sports less than half the schools even participate much less put resources in place to challenge the powers. If the fans quit going to FB and BB then most schools would cease trying to compete. Select few schools would and could someday brag about 65 mnc's in football. But who would care. Maybe bama could get 11 legit titles......

Granted, you can win multiple NC's a year with Indoor/Outdoor Track and Cross Country but no one else is. Which was more of my point.

No one else is winning Triple Crowns. No one else is winning multiple combinations. Arkansas has won 42 of the last 63 team titles with the closest school having 5.

And strictly speaking of conferences, 43 of 46 conference titles since joining the SEC, 20 Triple Crowns, and 82 total conference titles going back to the SWC.

If they were simply high numbers of titles because there are many to win that would be one thing but it's a whole different story when the number is high because you are the only school bringing them home.

To most people Track is insignificant. Hell, it's insignificant to me. I'm just pointing out that one program has dominated it's sport like no other and that one program, specifically the one coach, is glanced over.

Nice total Arkansas but since 1984:
LSU has:
Mens
Baseball: 5
Track and field outdoor: 3
Track and field indoor: 2

Women's
Track and Field outdoor: 14
Indoor track & field: 11

LSU total National Championships: 41
all time not counting:
1935 Basketball
and
1908 Football
1958 Football
2003 Football
2007 Football

So thats 38 National Championships since 1984 in many sports.

Yes Boxing was a major college sports pre 1950's

Football, Basketball, Baseball have always been the big three

But Track and field and boxing were the rest of the big 5 back pre 50's.

Can you imagine going to school on a boxing scholarship? Sounds like fun. Cept for the getting hit part.

"Oh you play football? That's nice. I'm a fighter."

Why are we even arguing about another lunatic "Who's Now?" or USC v. Greatest Armies piece by ESPN? They included Knoxville? Good. Shows just how ******* gay these ignorant puff pieces are.
