Hawaii vs. Texas Game 1

Left fielder Marcus Doi leads off and it could be hard night for names for typing .

A little chopper goes to Clemens who fields and slips down and there is no play and itr's ruled an error.

Kaeo Aliviado in center bat second and walks to put two on.

First baseman Marc Flores is up with two on and no outs.
He flies to center for the first out as the runners hold at their respective bases.

Juliene Jones the second baseman rips a single to center that plates a run to make it 1-0 Hawaii.

Jordan Richard lines a singel to right center that scores another run to make it 2-0 as the error leading off the game is really hurting now.

One out and two on for Trevor Podratz the catcher who pops out to second and the runners were off with the pitch the runner at second was almost doubled up at second by Marlow.

A swinging K ends the inning, but it a productive first for Hawaii and rough inning for French with the error.

Texas comes to bat trailing Hawaii 2-0.
 
B. Marlow leads off against righty Matt Cooper with a 2-0 recond.

He slams the first pitch to center for a single.

Payton bats with one on K's looking for the first out.

Hinojosa flies out to center on the first pitch he sees for out two.

Clemens bats with two down and Marlow on first.
The count runs full and shot up the middle and goes off the thigh of he pitcher into foul ground on the third base line for an infield single.

Felts at DH batts now with runners at first and second and two down.

He leaves the runners stranded by popping out foul to the first baseman.

One inning gone in the opend of the four game series.

Hawaii leads 2-0.
 
French comes back out to face the shortstop Austin Wobrock and he ground to second and the 4-3 put out is recorded for one away.

L.J. Brewster at third faces French K's looking for out two.

The top of the order Doe up again grounds right back to French and his toss to first retires the side in order.

Much better inning for French as we go the bottom of the second with Hawaii ahead 2-0.
 
Johnson leads off for Texas in the second and flies out to center for the first out.

McGuire bats now and he grounds out to short as Cooper gets the first two batters he faces trying match French and retire the side in order.

Montalbano catching tonight stands in the way of that task.
But he K's swinging to give Cooper his perfect inning.

Two innings gone and Hawaii leads 2-0.
 
French faces Aliviado to lead off the Hawii third frame.
He golfs a low pitch to center for his second hit of the game.

Flores bats with a runner at first. He one hops a perfect double play to short and the 6-4-3 twin killing is made to clean the base.

Jones bats with two outs and noone on and takes a straight change for a backwards K to retire the side.

Bottom of the third approaches with Hawaii leading 2-0.
 
Cooper who has a like 23 plus streak of not giving up an earned run faces Shaw in right tonight leading off and he grounds out to second.

One away for B. Marlow K's swinging for the second out.

Payton up for the second time bleeds one down the first base line and Cooper fields and sweeps tags, but drops the ball.

It's ruled a hit for Mark and his on with two away.

Hinojosa bats as maybe Payton might be running to get into scoring position.

C.J. bleeds one down the third base and a bare handed attempt is missed by the third baseman for another infield hit.

Two on for Clemens trying to put Texas on the board.

He takes a big sweeping curve for strike three as Texas strands more base runners.

Three completed and Hawaii still leads 2-0.
 
French back to the hill in the fourth faces Richartz leading off for the Warriors.

He grounds up the middle and Marlow backhands it and makes a good throw that records out one.

Podratz is fists a little pop to Hinojosa for the second out.

Hanawahine bats now and a fast ball is taken at the top of the zone for the third out.

Again Hawaii goes down in order, but they still lead 2-0.

Texas needs to rattle some bats in their half of the fourth.
 
Cooper who is it appears a quality pitcher has the upper hand so far against French.

Felts leads off and ropes one to the gap in left center. The center fielder tries to run it down and misses a diving attempt.

It goes to the wall for Felt's first Longhorn career triple.

Johnson up rips one to third and the play is made on the hot liner for out one as Felts holds.

McGuire bats and Texas really must plate this run with a lead off triple. He works the count full against Cooper and then rips a liner down the line past the third baseman for a rbi double.

Texas cuts the lead in half on the second extra base hit of the inning.

Montalbano attempts to make it a new game again with one away. That broke Cooper's long scoreless streak.
Montalbano swings at a curver in the dirt for two away.

It's up to Shaw for now to try and tie it up this inning and he does just that with a sinking liner to center for an rbi single to ties things at 2-2.

Marlow bats again at the top of the order with one on still and two away.

With a 2-1 count brings out the pitching coach for Hawaii and now he returns to the dugout and Marlow digs back in.
He sends a ground ball up the middle that is cut off by the shortstops and he goes to the bag for a 6U force to retire the side.

Texas ties things at 2-2 after four innings completed.
 
French tries to become the pitcher of record as he starts the fifth inning against the Rainbow Warriors.

Wobrock leads off for Hawaii and chops out to second for one away.

Brewster up grounds one through the box and into center for a one out single.

Doi brings the top of the Hawaii order once more with one one and one out.
A 2-0 count brings Skip out to the mound and he looks to be saying concentrate on the batter after several pick off throws had been made.

The count goes full for Doi as French continues to throw to first. Doi grounds one past McGuire and Hinojosa moves over into the hole fields and makes a strong throw to nip Doe at first on a close play for out two as the runner goes to second.

Aliviado bats with a chance to give Hawaii the lead back, but instead flies out to shallow left to retire the side.

Halfway through the game it's tied at 2-2.
 
Payton leads off the Texas fifth against Cooper.

He rolls one to second for a quick out one.

Hinojosa up now grounds out to short for two away.

Clemens bats with two outs and none on.
Another big nasty curve ball leaves him with his bat on his shoulder as the ump rings him up to retire the side in order.

Five innings are played and it's tied at 2-2.
 
French on for the sixth faces Flores to lead things off for the Bows and he grounds sharply right at Marlow for the first out.

Jones bats again with one away and K's swinging for the second out.

Richartz bats with two away and nobody on.
He cues one toward the hole on the left side that McGuire barehands and then throws him out to retire the side on an odd looking play.

Bottom of the sixth comes now with the game still tied at 2-2.
 
Cooper still hurling for Hawaii faces Felts in the sixth for Texas.
He rolls a routine ground ball to short for the first out.

Johnson up now K's swinging on a curve on the inside half for two away.

McGuire bats with two away now and none aboard.
He bloops one to right that the right fielder runs down to retire the side in order.

Six innings in the books with the score still tied at 2-2 in yet another pitching duel at the Disch.
 
French out once more in the Hawaii seventh faces Podratz.to lead off.
Another full count leads to a ground ball deep in the hole on the left side that Hinojosa makes a diving stop and his low throw is dug out by Clemens for out one.

Hanawahine lines one that McGuire climbs the ladder for another nice play for out two.

Wobrock grounds out to short to retire the side in order as the Horns flash the gloves to keep things tied at 2-2.

Stretch time in Austin tied.
 
Montalbano leads off against Cooper in the Texas seventh.
A 3-0 count then runs full and a chop to second becomes a lead off first out.

Cooper has walked noone still as Shaw bats and weakly grounds to first for a 3U put out for two away.

B. Marlow one hops one to second and it retires the Texas side in order.

Seven innnings gone and it's mano a mano French vs. Cooper.

We are still tied at 2-2.
 
French out for what could very well be his last inning of the night faces Brewster for the Hawaii eighth.

He looks at an outside corner slider for out one.

Doi up as the top of the order comes around again.
A liner up the middle is knocked down by Hinojosa, but there is no play and it's a one out hit.

French goes over 100 pitches now and out comes Skip with a hook and in comes lefty Travis Duke to replace Parker.

One on and one away as Duke faces his first hitter of the game in lefty Aliviado.
He swings at a 2-0 pitch and lifts a shallow fly to Payton that he makes a running catch on for the second out.

Flores bats with two away and a man on first. Also a left handed hitter as the Horns play situational baseball.

He scalds a liner toward first and it's pickes on one short hop by Clemens who steps on the bag to retire the side. Kacy has shown a very good glove lately.

Bottom of eight is here still knotted at 2-2.
 
Cooper continues on for Hawaii and faces Payton to lead off for Texas in the eighth.

He grounds one right back up the middle for a lead single.

Hinojosa up looks to move him over and Hawaii looks for the bunt. They get one and it's good enough to move Payton to second on the sac.

Clemens looks to give Texas it's first lead of the game.
He works a full count and then walks to put two on.

Runners on first and second with one away and out comes the Hawaii head coach.

He leaves Cooper in the game to face Felts in a big moment in the game for both sides.

Felts is sawed off but slices one into the hole on the right into right field. The right fielder comes up throwing and it beats Payton up the the third base line. Payton is able to slide around the catcher's tag and then scramble back to the plate.

It results in a Texas 3-2 lead.

That's all for Cooper as Gordon Cardenas a freshman right hander is in.

Carter runs for Felts at first.

Johnson up with runners at the corners as Texas looks for more.

Ben needs some contact here at least, but gets none swinging and missing at a high fast ball for a big out two as the runners must hold.

McGuie up flies out to right and more runners are stranded.

But Felts gives Texas a 3-2 lead into the ninth.

It will interesting to see who comes out for Texas to pitch that ninth inning with Thornhill starting in the four game series.
 
The answer to the Texas pitcher in the ninth trying to close things out is John Curtis.

He faces Jones leading off for Hawaii.
He grounds out to second for an important lead out one.

Richartz bats and walks on five pitches to reach.

Podratz bats with one on and one away
He pops one down the right field line that Marlow ranges over and makes the play for out two.

Wanahahine tries to bunt his way on, but Curtis comes off the mound quickly and fields and throws him out by a step to end the game.

Curtis gets the save and Texas wins 3-2 in a well played contest.

Another well pitched win with enough hitting to get by results in Texas victory.

I hope we can one day just wear a team out with the bats, but a one run win is a win. Just hope we can do this in conference this season.

I will try to maybe do the second game of the DH tomorrow.
On Wednesday my father fell and suffered a hairline fracture of his hip. He was put into the hospital's rehab facility this afternoon.

I will be going up there tomorrow with my brother and I don't know what time I will return. He will be there for awhile so I may miss a game here and there. Sometimes life calls.
 
It's a four game series so somebody has to start.

I think if Cooper or Curtis can prove to close that Thornhill will go back to starting.

His problem as a starter was a slow start. If he could get by the first inning he got better and better.

You can't have that in a closer.
