Hawaii Tournament-Hawaii

Did the announcer really just say "she took a dump under the basket". Granted, I know he meant she fell down hard, but surely he thought about how that would sound.

OK, these announcers are not exactly Walter Cronkite award winners..but hey, it's an island in the middle of nowhere!!

I am glad to see playing time for the newbies...they need experience, after all, their next game is vs Tennessee....yikes!!

Yeah, I'm glad they have a week to recover before playing Tenn. That's going to be a tough, tough game! I'm anxious to see how they handle it!

It doesn't take much to get this crowd to boo. Are we that "boo happy" at the Erwin Center and I just don't realize it??

AG should have taken that shot instead of trying to pass to Cokie. Lucky the Horns still scored.

Horns are going to win this one, 71-50 to go 3-0 in Hawaii. Bit sloppy at times but good game for the third one in a row. Everyone got in, everyone scored. AT ended up with 7 pts, two short of hitting 1000. She should get there against Tenn.

my vote for mvp, Chas.

I don't think Ro got credited for a rebound (at least John Mdany said she didn't have any), but she actually DID have a rebound, although it was probably credited as a team rebound. There was a scrum after an offensive rebound and she grabbed it after a bit and sorta tipped it to someone else, thus securing the ball to TX. I doubt she got credited for that rebound, but she certainly DID rebound it for TX. I too, think she is going to make an impact for TX this year.

I remain disappointed in our post play. I thought Ronisha did great and frankly deserved more minutes. A couple of times they threw that high cross court pass to Cokie down low and let her go up and get it and score, but barring those plays it was not impressive. Considering the height advantage we had, I'm hoping the team can spend the Christmas break working on entry passes into the post and passing out of a double or triple team.

Very pleased to see the team go 3-0 in the tournament. In my prediction of 16-14 I had predicted going 2-1. So I revise it to 17-13 and if we can get a post game from either Cokie or Ronisha to supplement us on nights when Chas' shot is not falling we can do way better than 17-13.

I think our post game is improving. Cokie is still on the way back after a year off, but there isn't anyone who doesn't think we're a much better squad this year than last. That's why I'm a little confused by your 16-14, or revised 17-13 record. Are you saying you think we're going to do worse than last season, and if so, why? While the team is still developing, and has things to work on, don't you agree that we look much better than last year? The 3-0 record in Hawaii is very encouraging. I was hoping for at least 2-1, but 1-2 was also a distinct possibility. VA was ranked slightly higher than us after the upset of the Vols, and Cal is a good team that was in the AR votes category of the pre-season poll.

Last season we were 18-12 entering the Big12 tourney, and 19-13 prior to NCAA play. This year we will enter conference play with a 9-3 record even if we lose to both Tennessee and Michigan State, though I'm hopeful we win both (obviously, most have the Vol game as a loss). That means if we simply equal last year's Big 12 performance (two more conf games this year so 8-10 would be the same as last season's 7-9), inc a single win in the conference tourney, we would already beat your original and revised projections. And again, everyone believes this team is significantly better than last season's, when Cokie was out and we had almost no offense in the post. As I said in another thread, if we go 9-3 in pre-conference games, finish 11-7 in conference and win just one in the Big12 tourney, we're still at 21 wins entering NCAA play - the same as OU last year, who ended up with a #6 seed. Obviously anything is possible, and the Big12 is a tough conference, but based on our roster and performance thus far, marginal improvement over last year seems a more than reasonable outcome.

It's not about being better this year versus last year when predicting a record. Other teams will be better than last year, too. We play in the toughest league in the country. After the first few games I was unimpressed with our post play and we have basically have the same guards as last year. On a night when we hit shots from the perimeter we'll be awesome as evidenced by the Virginia win. But we still haven't shown we have a post play game to pound the ball inside and get easy points when the guards aren't hitting. Until you do that in the Big 12, wins are hard to come by. I know this is a sunshine based forum, but some of you need to look a little more objectively at the team's performances.

I agree Tempest. AG drives me crazy w/ no post play. Call me crazy Ray but I would rather have points than blocks. I sure hope Reed comes along w/ her post game sooner than later. I know it's in her she just needs to get a few games under her belt. Get her basketball legs back.

I see alot of promise w/ Hartung, Ronisha, Nneka and I'm patiently waiting on Brewer. I keep saying I think our Freshman will run this team by year end and I'm sticking to it. If Coach allows them to win their spot and time over the veterans and they WIN by all means play them. I'm not about giving anything free but if they EARN it in practice I say let them play.

Different subject - So I'm all hyped to see the game last night and lo and behold that particular FCS DTV channel I don't get w/ my package. LOL!! I just went to bed. LOL!!!!

As the season moves on. I do see the entry passes to the Post getting better! Right now I am not impress with the Guards effort to get the ball to the Post in the right position. I do see us as a team looking better at this point then last year. There just so many factors come into place when you are playing a team sports. R.Majors we might want to make her our 6 Woman coming off the bench! Instant offense! I noticed her playing early this year in a game. Now I do like the Defense more this year. C.Fussell just Outstanding along with Y.Anderson.I seen some good things out of C.Bass and Nneka, A.Hartung,C.Peoples. Pretty soon its going to really be a battle for playing time. Because K.Brewer will be available. And shes bringing her A Game. I do like the direction GG has the program going in. Cant wait to see how the Coaching Staff figure out the playing time for each player.

AG's lack of offensive post play is frustrating, but i think she more than makes up for it with passing and especially defense - blocking and altering shots. having AG in the paint on defense is huge for our guards - it allows them to be much more aggressive.

that being said, we do need another post or power forward in the game to provide offense. so far, i'm not seeing it from Cokie. coming back from injury is tough. i hope she starts getting more comfortable with it - the Tenn game will be a good test for her, going up against Baugh.

i definitely think we need to utilize our other post players, because like cynt, i also see a lot of promise with Hartung, Ro and Nneka. the big thing for me is catching the ball and making a good post move to get the shot up. i see that from all 3 players and hope they can contribute more minutes. i especially like Hartung in the high/low. she has a better shot from the foul line and outside the paint.

I think it will help to have Kayla Brewer when she becomes eligible - which it were before the Tenn game, DARN!
