What a nerve racking game. Even as a coach, watching the computer screen throughout the entire game had me going crazy. It was impossible to decipher the emotion or the flow of the game. But im very impressed with this win. We beat a really good Cal team that will in all likely hood finish in the top 25 and second in the Pac 12. Impressed with out ability to make clutch shots and Ft's and any time you can win a game with your defense is a plus. Looking forward to our next 2 big games against Michigan St and Tenn. No so impressed with our TO's and being out rebounded. But a win is a win and I'll take them any way we can get them.
While I appreciate Texas winning today and yesterday, you would think some fans reaction would be tempered as expecting the Horns to win rather than beimg so excited as if Texas is back. Season is early still and I believe its a bit premature to say Texas is for real, especially under the leadership of Goestenkors.
Really impressed with the Horns win today. Cal had their best shooting game this season from BTA and the FT and Horns were able to match that. The Cal posts we knew would be a load yet our posts were up to the task. Cal had to do their damage with their guards and Horns stepped up in the second half.
Wish we had been able to see this game. It sounded like a great game to watch. While I always want the Horns to win, it is the kind of game that is fun for fans to watch.
Hawaii may be a trap game as the Horns may have a bit of a letdown after winning the first two games. But at least I will be able to watch that game online. I want to see how they play against a team that they should beat when that is the third game in a row after playing a very tough game the day before.
Time to sweep this tournament, Horns!
Beat the Rainbow Wahini!
Some horses are just asses. You would think wins would make fans happy, especially early in the season and this being the second of the 3 games on 3 consecutive days . . .
Oh man, I think I got whiplash going from yesterday's game to today's!
What a maddening, exhausting & ultimately thrilling game today. All of the crisp passing, making one extra pass for the shot kinda of offense from yesterday...forgot to show up today. We dribbled a lot, and I wasn't sure anyone wanted to shoot for a while there.
Cal is tough and incredibly physical. It seemed like we either needed to don pads & helmets or step up into a ring. We weren't rebounding early on. I haven't seen stats, so I don't know how we ended up on the rebounds. We would get close, but then Cal would go off. It was hard to get over the hump and get the lead, but thankfully we did with 1 minute left.
I know we fans like to complain about the refs, but 2 of the refs today (1 in particular) were a bother. At one point in the 2nd half, Texas had 9 fouls, while Cal had 3. Uh...don't think so. Not likely given how physical Cal is.
We had come within 3 in the 2nd half when Chas hit a 3. Wide open. The ref called it off for traveling. Uh. I don't think so. That shifted the momentum big time for a while. Cal went on about an 8-0 run.
The most excellent outcome of today: our players never gave up. They were close at least 4 times before Cal would take off again. We definitely weren't as crisp as yesterday, our offense was painful at times, the refs didn't help, but WE NEVER GAVE UP. We fought through it. What a great experience for the team...for them to realize that it truly is not over until the buzzer goes off. It is never too late to come back, take the lead and keep it. Yesterday was nice, but that's not what most games are like. Most games are battles for the better part of 40 minutes. Now, we know we can hang tough for the whole game.
Congrats to Coach G for convincing the players that they were going to win and to keep fighting, one play at a time.
I stayed and watched a bit of the UVA-Hawaii game. Hawaii was giving Virginia a run for its money, at least in the first half . All teams will have to dig deep for the energy to play a 3rd game in 3 days. Each of them have been physical and exhausting.
From the sounds of the game, it seemed the reffing was very poor at times, but we have had that before..I think every blocked shot but one was called a foul..,no way AG fouled on every block...but as stated, the Horns hung in and did not give up...
I hope the players who have signed LOI's like Stafford and Davenport were listening in and realize the HEART that they will be a part of soon is truly a beautiful thing....
only one win, but one that DOES strengthens one's conviction and courage...
